I have a #26, which was the wooden box model with fertilizer, and I was able to get quite a few parts from AGCO for it (seed funnels, etc). I had the "catchy" disc problem too, and found that it was caused by rusty steel sealing washers getting caught on the felt seals. A trip to the dealer got me all new washers (couple bucks each), and I was able to overhaul my openers pretty easily. The drill is extremely accurate, and does a good job. I was even able to get the fertilizer section working on mine, and it does a good job too, although I wish I had another set of fertilizer feed wheels for it. To answer your question about opener disassembly, yes the nut with the lock tab in the center of the opener is what holds everything together. Edited by BrettPhillips - 08 Apr 2011 at 7:57am |

sunny day again here so off to do outside stuff. i will probably pull the disc off on the next rainy day which is often. thanks for the advise on the disc i will see what i have once i pull them off. as far as getting a new to me drill i wouldn't know what to do with rubber tires. and we have written on the lid of the seed box a bunch of the settings that this old girl is happy with. thanks for the heads up on the drill next time i am up spokane way i will let you know. saw some allcrop parts up there on craigs not to long ago.

Wow, Eldon! That's quite a price for an older 8 ft drill. I think I paid $45 for mine at an auction, then spent another $300 getting it in shape. I doubt I could get my money out of it by selling it, but it is worth it to have a good reliable drill that none of the neighbors would be caught dead borrowing.

Well, you guys would probably chase me off for buying a steel wheel, galvanized box Allis drill in Iowa, instead of just using the old IHC one we have in the shed here in PA.....
I'm not even going to talk about how much I spent............

well while i was outside getting my first mild sunburn (opps) a buddy of mine came out looking for something to do so we took the disc off the drill. first we removed the cap in the center of the disc then inserted a square chunk of keystock in and tuned it loose. 32 disc later and they are on the floor. i went to my local agco dealer and one of the dealerships they absorbed years ago still have the parts book for my model38 drill. my seals look like paper. if they can get them i will just install new and regrease them all. shoot me an email if you need the setting for seeding
