I have a mtd built Troy Built mower with a Briggs intec twin that starts and runs great for
About 10-15 minutes then surges till it stalls. It will restart if I choke it but just surges and stalls. Will start and run good the next day And run a while. I think it's fuel related because I can at least keep it running with a shot of carb cleaner when it is stalling. After it dies it will not restart unless choked. Any help would be appreciated.

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!

Just coming to your question. I think you're on the right track. Sounds like Carburetion to me also. First thing I would do is drain the tank and start with some fresh fuel. To me it sounds like there is either water in the fuel, or dirt in the enrichment jet. Also, the ethanol that's in todays fuel plays havoc with small engines in the valve department. Ethanol makes the valves stick. That could be a possibility also, especially when you say it runs for a little while then quits. My HT Honda rider gets like that once in a while. I add a dash of Seafoam to the fuel tank on occasions, and that eliminates the "sticky valve syndrome" and the engine runs like a dream again.... HTH

Hudco is that a common problem with these? I'll run it till it surges and then check each cyl for spark. Is has been sitting for two years before I pulled it out to try to mow. It's full of fresh gas and the carb has been cleaned the best I could.

you would be suprised how well a briggs twin will run on one cylinder until you try to do work.        we get one or two a year that has a bad coil or diode in the kill wire.        but if it ran bad after along period of sitting it could still need the carb cleaned better .       try pulling one spark plug wire off while it is runing  if it quits probley thats the one thats working, then try the other probley wont change    then with shruod off swap kill wire positions to see if it doesnt change which coil isnt fireing  if it does then the kill wire is bad  has diode in it for each coil   we have enought come with that to keep b&s #691220 harness-wiring in stock
