    Posted: 09 Aug 2023 at 9:52pm
My 2003 Toyota Sequoia has thrown a Check Engine Light right when I was fixing to take as trip!!! I hooked up a OBD 11 reader and it tells me the first O2 Analyser is bad,,,,
After fighting that SOB for 3 hours,,,YES three hours I have not been able to separate the cconnector to pull the O2 Analyser,,,,!!  There is just NO ROOM short of pulling the frigging engine.
My question to the GURUS here,,,can  you cut the wires close to the old sensor, install the new sensor then solder  to new to the old wires? What is puzzling is the new sensor has the wire pigtail and twice as long as the factory one,,,,????
 Any help on this ,,,??

Changed a few like that, make certain does not have a "Lock Tab" inside the clip together, was a neat not so handy invention of the Japs.  Need to ask, have you used any Silicone on this engine?  Some of even the labeled O2 Sensor Safe varieties AREN'T.

What are your voltage readings of the O2 sensors in operation? There are a plethora of things that will trip the light you see and call an O2 sensor fault. What is the thrown code(s) via your reader? Do you have live data available with your scanner?

Lot of parts get "shotgunned" because people don't understand how things work.

YES, you can cut/solder the wires... do ONE at a time, matching the colors of course.
if you can leave 2"+- on the old sensor.
be sure to support the wires away from hot 'things'......

I KNOW nonHonda O2sensors aren't the same as OEM... kept throwing the 'code' even though sensor was fine.....

Codger is right... It COULD be the O2 sensor, but 90% of them are changed out when it was something else..... MOST CODES, give you 3-4 different options on what the problem could be.. SEVERAL list  02 as "possible"... normally it is not the sensor .. It may actually be reading CORRECT and 02 is out of range.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

MAP, (manifold absolute pressure) and MAF, (mass air flow) will almost always throw codes relating to the O2 sensor being out of tolerance. Evaporative Emissions hardware are often masked and the O2 sensor calls the fault as it actually does the reading of the exhaust stream. Most vehicles incorporate more than one O2 sensor in the package and they do different things. Look for one near the exhaust manifold, and one after the catalytic converter. These are referred to as "upstream" and "downstream" and incorrect, or out of tolerance flow through them will trip the alarm.

Basically, they do their job(s) yet take the blame.

Hmmm, kinda reminds me of an old Cheech & Chong song.....

Well, a bit of an update on the O2 sensor on my Sequoia,,I received the new sensor and after a healthy and time consuming cuss job, I finally got it installed,,,big hands just DO NOT fit well in those close confines I had to work in,,,,,,Wink
According to the Toyota dealer it had thrown a P0051 (1of1) HO2S Heater Control Circuit, Bank 2 sensor 1 and I verified it with my Son's hand held ZR13.
I had left the battery disconnected so it had cleared the code and all 7 of the I/M monitors were in the green and after the shakedown test,, all systems were good to go. I had to go to Rogers which is bout 40 miles away and did a lot of stop and go driving while there, and I'm happy!!
I want to THANK all who offered their help,, and is why I love this site so much,,,Lots of help available,,,,!!!ClapClapClap
