I was rebuilding the carb for my D17 & found the choke shaft was bad. Didn't want to steel it from another carb. Which would make that one unusable. Checked high & low for another. Nothing.
So, I made one! Don't tell a machinist that something is no longer available! It is just a challenge. LOL Ray W.

You are right! I give my local machinist a ton of business and everything comes back looking as good as new. They are well worth the price they charge.

Thanks guys!
It was a little intimidating at first. But after I made a blue print of it. It didn't seem near as bad. I will take a picture of my setup for the next one. Brian, I used a slitting saw for the slot. Basically a small saw blade for metal. I had to make the arbor to hold it also. I will post a pic of that too. Ray W. |

Ahh.. a rotary blade. I assumed you used an end mill, but it is kind of small for that.

I often think that if I were starting life over, I think I would love to study machining. The closest I ever came was working at Talbert Trailers, running a big drill, and power hack saw that I cut big beams with. And a twenty foot wide shear and brake to bend metal and make channels and angles!

Gary, I saw a lot of kits with the throttle shaft included. But didn't see any with the choke shaft also. Do you have any links to them?
Ray W. I did find some for the smaller Marvel carbs. The ones I need are for the larger TSX-464 & TSX-773. ( 3.750" over all length ) Edited by Rltool - 16 Sep 2017 at 9:06pm |

Ray has done many projects for me thru the years. His workmanship is incredible. Last spring I bought a 7000. The alternator double groove pulley was worn bad on one of the grooves. I could not find a new one. Ray said just send me yours. When the new one came, I couldn't get over how nice it was. Making something like that takes talent. Thanks Ray, to my good friend in MI. Tim

I guess it was for the smaller ones and I'm sure that the ones you make are a whole lot nicer and better fit than the Chinese stuff anyway. |

Could you repair a steering gear box where the parts are no longer available? Dusty.

Dusty, I have machines & sources available to do just about anything. Just a matter if cost out weighs the need.
Give me a call or pm. (616)4three7-2527 Ray W. I'm not sure it is all that better than the production parts Gary. But necessity is a very good motivator. LOL Edited by Rltool - 17 Sep 2017 at 9:16am |
