I picked up my sub-soiler last year from a forum member and had time to use it quite a bit. Really enjoyed it, and I think it helped. The wet spots that I went through were not as wet as years past and with the weather we had in September that's saying something! The one downside is that the cornstalks tended to bunch up. I thought about advertising here for a factory coulter but thought hens teeth were probably plentiful compared to this. So I had an old plow coulter I picked up at a farm sale years back for I think $5. I started by cutting it apart and modeling it on the soiler. Squared the ends up and drilled some new mounting holes.

I had to make a bend in each side to get this thing to mount right, of course I ran out of acetylene in the process so that drug things out a little. That went pretty well, now I just needed the braces to keep the depth setting. And how to get the angle right. Well I got lucky on the angle thing, a pair of angle wedges for channel iron were just about perfect!

Now I just need patience until it's time to try this thing out. What I really like about this is no new holes in the sub-soiler, if it doesn't work, take it off, no harm done!

Looks good! A great idea for something home made.
I've never used my wife's Maytag for a shop bench though...
