It is 8’ x 16’, 4”x 6” x 16’ stringers, 9 3” x 4” x 8’cross braces on 2’ centers, 1.5” x 6” x 16’ top boards with the two side boards being 1.75” to make a lip so stuff won’t slide off. All the wood is dimensional rough sawn white oak with 3 coats of linseed oil.I still have to put the two front boards to make the 1/4” lip on the front and back and then the side boards. To the gear itself I was lucky Albert at the AGCO dealer in maryville mo found me the following new idea nos parts: set of wheel bearings and seals, front spindle, center steering bushing, 2 stringer braces, eyebolt for the 3rd axel. So I pulled the pole apart and wire brushed it and cleaned it good so it won’t freeze up again, cleaned and repacked the 5 good Bearings, installed the new set udjusted the tie in and out on the deck. don sold me the gear in the first place which was earful nice of him to part with it. I built it to use in case I ever need to but truth is it won’t ever get used much except for a chore wagon and wagon rides and taken to some ac shows. I was able to even find 2 oos old old stock Goodyear tires from Austin’s salvage to match the other 4. Matching old tires is nearly as hard as finding nos parts. Thanks to all who have commented.

Do you know what year your wagon gear was built? I think it's six bolt hubs help out for easier rim selections. It's hubs look like their rim face sets back and then the outer bearing housing protrudes out farther than most. What hub # are they?

New idea when by lit no meet and going from memory I think it is a 1952 Model year. The hubs are 6 bolt; I’ll confirm the year when I get my books out.

The wagon even came with a spare wheel and before I found the 6th Goodyear to match I found a firestone with the same tread so it’s the spare.

Well Michael, That is a fine looking wagon you have there now. And it was I that was asking for the finished pictures so now with this thread, you have replied. Thank you. Now, are you ready to make another rack, but 18' long? Got an EZ Trail 872 waiting for a rack. I stopped in at the local sawmill and he had nothing in white oak for a wagon rack, even at 16'... Said lot of the truckers have gone over to using Douglas Fir for their truck beds because its lighter despite it isn't as strong. ... and he wants a nickel more for it too.

The sawmill I got the lumber from is in butler mo.
The wagon is more stout than I’ll ever need but I wanted to be usable and you can easily get more on it that you think. |
