Briggs & Stratton owns Simplicity, Snapper and a few other brand names. I don't think the AC tractors were offered to the Simplicity Dealers but i'm not sure.

They are built at the old snapper plant in McDough, Ga. Simplicity bought Snapper then a year later sold to Briggs, Briggs then bought Murry, the new AC mowers are a Simplicity frame with a Murry deck.

I sure wish they would build a good ZTR Allis mower. I see they have 4 wheel steer but I think the ZTR's are much better with fewer parts and things to wear out.

Got a newer snapper ZTR mower in the scrap pile. not that old but already one hydraulic final drive has went out. Over 6 hundred dollars to replace. Took the engine off and mounted it onto my ZTR Scagg. I like something with some gears.

Bought a 60" Swisher ZTR last year and love it, solid machine and cuts well and has cut my mowing time in half from using the New Holland S16 I have with 54" deck.
Murry 18 HP with 46" deck I parted out and used engine in D-Allis 616 Hydro I sold .

That Simplicity must have been built before B&S bought them out.

Snapper got in a bind, simplicity bought them. Simplicity got in a bind and the Briggs & Stratton Group bought them. Briggs & Stratton is just the "owner". The machines are still built in GA by Snapper. IMHO, they are still well built machines. Briggs & Stratton was wise not to use their engines on the Snapper's and Simplicity's.
I have a Snapper 2007 350Z ZTR. It has septate HydroGear pumps and motors for each wheel, Kohler engine (optional Kawasaki), and heavy frame/deck. It weighs in at about 700 lbs and it is only a 44" mower. I'd call it a light commercial duty machine. There is not a metric fastener on it and it uses heavy SAE washers throughout. Too bad they discontinued this line and went to HydroGear trans-axles to save money. CT

Dave, the new AC-130 lawn tractors were offered to both Simplicity and Snapper dealers. Dealers I have talked to that have decided to sell them say they are selling good. Even know of one dealer who said he did not want to bother with them is selling them now. Briggs & Stratton has not really pushed these machines from what I can tell. They are pretty much selling themselves. |
