I need the serrated bushing that connects the twin arm to the sickle head on an 80 series mower . It uses a 1/2 x 2inch fine threaded # 8 bolt. Please let me know where there might be one available. Thank You !
Rich

Thanks Mike! Rich- Just sold my last NOS 804518 bushing last week, we tried making a brand new one but the serrations were a hair off. Give me a couple weeks yet, I hope to be in the $50 or less ballpark.

I have a suggestion for a sickle knife head that has the threads stripped out - drill out and thread for 9/16" fine thread, saves having to buy a new one!

Mine wasn't totally wore out but the threads were getting a little "thin". I simply welded a nut on the bottom of the knife head and bought a longer Gr8 bolt. There was no clearance problem. I lost my serrated bushing while mowing years ago. Believe it or not, with the help of a magnet, I found it. Glad I did considering what they want for a new one.

#11 is the bushing. Later were grooved face, earlier were smooth face to mate with the knifehead. |

I have re-done the standard 1/2" threads with a HeliCoil insert. That keeps everything using stock hardware. I think I have a few NOS knifeheads. I don't think I have any bushings.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

The serrations on bottom of bushing, mates with the serrations on top of knife head. This puts load on bushing, not bolt. HTH Tracy

A good bit of advice, keep the serrations clean when assembling, get that 1/2" gr 8 bolt TIGHT, recheck the bolt often and keep the crossbar hole tension bolts adjusted so there is no slack. ANY looseness in this area and it destroys itself. Also, keep the sickle SHARP !! for easier cutting.

Make sure the bushing fits snugly inside the cross arms,if the bushing and/or cross arms have much wear it'll let the bushing move back and forth some and end up breaking the knife head and/or the bolt. Also make sure the bushing slots are mated to the slots on the knife.

We have the 804518 serrated bushings available now, it took us a while to get the serrations correct. They are heat treated just like the originals. I have one on my 80s mower and have been using it to make sure it fits and functions properly. Price is $93. Be sure to use flat washer 920309, lock washer 916966 and proper grade 8 bolt 805306-->927236 to keep the bolt and bushing tight against sickle. |
