Does anyone know where I could locate an engine for a John Deere 644 b loader?
It is a 6cyl turbo I believe 531 ci.

Someone told me that they are buying JD combines with engines that will drop into JD loaders. Just sharing.

I dont think you have a 531 engine. If its an a or b its probably a 404, the later ones had a 466. If you had a 531 you could tell by the fact it didnt have enough power to get out of its own way and it would have had a ring cast on it where they attatched a chain when used as an anchor.

I stand corrected, the 644 & 644a had a 404 the 644b had the 531 and everythng from the b on up had the 466, so you are correct that is the engine you have, which is unfortunate becasue its a huge pig and expensive to overhaul. I would look for a 466 out of a junk yard if I was you a better motor and it had the ability to get out of its own way.

531's are kinda hard to find, find a combine 404 or 466, but you will probabbly need mounts belhousing etc from another machine that had that engine in it
