Arrived at 9:30 am on January 1 weighing in at around 12,000 pounds.  No, I am not talking about parenthood!  But rather this D21 Series II.  Serial number 2408 means it was the first off the assembly line in 1966.  Even though I agreed to buy it in September, it took a while to get shipped half way across the country.  Seeing it in person it looks better than I expected.  Fortunately, the seller was up front, honest and good to deal with.  It does not need any major mechanical work, just cosmetics and tires - 24.5 x 32s (need a second mortgage!).  Happy to have my new pride and joy though!  First order of business is to introduce that Egging cab to my sawzall.
Did I need a D21?  No.  Did I want a D21?  YES!  Would anyone believe me if I said this was the last tractor I wanted???

Looks good! That's one of my all time favorite tractors. Needs to lose the John Deere radio, though. Darrel

Congrats on acquiring a great classic AC turbo muscle tractor! Thanks for sharing. Until now, I hadn’t realize that the D21’s steering tie rod moved thru a slot in their front axle supports.
What’s its past story (Where was its home, what was it’s main duty, & how many hours on it)?

I once had a Case 1070 with the same cab, in fact I think it had the same radio in it!  Just after my 50th birthday I decided life was too short to spend half a year riding around in that cab so I bought a Kubota M110, twice the tractor of the Case, even with less power.
That D21 is a nice addition to anyone's fleet, wish it was in mine!

Oh yes, I totally believe it is the tractor you ever wanted to buy.

Just remember to tell others," It was the last tractor I wanted to buy. It is that I just bought it out of order" when a WD45D, 220 FWA, 8095, or the 6070 s.n. 1972 shows up.

Great news. Welcome to the D-21 club. Happy to have been a small part of you getting your new baby. You know this is not your last tractor!  Are the rear tires Traction Field and Road or All Traction Field and Road.  I'm looking for the most original looking 24.5 x 32 for my 220 fwd.

Thanks for the kind comments!  To answer your questions:
Not sure if the radio works yet.  Will check it out and let you know.
I don't know much about the history of the tractor aside from the previous owner - used it on his ranch for 5 or 6 years, sounds like it did a bit of everything.

Calvin:  the rears are Firestone All Traction Field & Road F151.  They have about 50% life left but they have major cracks in them.  Still holding fluid though.  If you are interested, let me know.  I might see if there are any good used ones around to put on.

I'm going to break the piggy bank and install new rears but want them as original to the tractor as possible. Traction Field and Road no longer available in 24.5 x 32 so it will be All Tractions the same as you have.

Dad took it out - does not work.  Full of critter nests and tuning knob does not turn anything.  What do you expect for a John Deere?  :)

Hello D Series 4   The fact that my FRIENDS haven't won the lottery I did some TRADING for an  almost complete D21 in pieces.  Great mosquito killer!  Still waiting on friends to win the lottery still want a 10-18 and 6-12 to finish our collection.
Plan on pouring concrete this Saturday  for our museum, or the Wife says MAN CAVE for our collectables 32'x40' and open house during the GOTO Sept   11-15 2019 Union Grove WI.  Our own Sweet Corn hot dogs and hockey pucks and liquid refreshments.  Hope to see you here   Alllen

I've had it for less than a week and we already got the cab off.  Looks much better now!
One fly in the ointment:  I found oil in the coolant.  I am thinking head gasket and fire rings?  There is no coolant in the oil fortunately.  It will be going in the shop after the 185 and D14 get out.
