Hi all,
I've been meaning to post my newest addition to my collection since last weekend when we hauled him home, and I suppose the new forum is as good a place as any!
He's a 1949 C we've named Frank because as you will so in the pics (once I figgure out that in the new forum) that the guy that I bought it from's grandpa (was his tractor) painted it at one point, and must have been so proud of it he stencled his own name on the hood instead of Allis Chalmers, LOL! That and I already have a 1948 C so we needed a name to differenciate them. Now there is "Lil' Allis" and "Frank".
Anyway, for a $500 tractor, he needs some tlc, but he runs (kinda).
The ring gear is shot, so using the starter is basically out of the question (unless you use the hand crank to turn it over to just the right spot) That, and the starter button on the starter is gone, so you have to pull the old redneck jumper cable zap method. He he...
Or just push start it we found is really easy with a couple of people (video to follow once I figgure it out)
But he likes to die once runing, so we'll have to take off his carb and clean and inspect it.
His breaks need work, rediator flushed, oil changed throughout, and an entirely new electrical system (he has no electrical box or battery box, there missing).
Engine may be tired, I think that he was worked hard in a past life, and didnt get the maintanence he disserved. sad.
I also got a truck load of misc parts for $100. B parts, a grill, manefold and carb, front wishbone axel, radiator (full of mice nests) with front shutters (minus little hand crank), the original C gas tank (full of mice nests) that the PO's grandpa rolled the tractor and dented in. couple of hand cranks, 2 tool boxes (one for Fank and a spare for a non electric B), PTO pulley, PTO guard, Ross stering box, and some other misc stuff.
And part of the deal was he has a spare engine block with a mag on it that I will get eventually once he picks it up (it was at the other end of the state).
I don't think I did too bad, Huh?
I'll have lots of questions as time goes on, but being 10 hours away from Frank really puts a halt to progress. He's back home in Ashland WI, and I'm moved out to Kenmare ND
Hopefully pics to follow...

Hi all,
I have some updates on Frank. When I was home last weekend, I got a chance to get him going since I had gone though the carb and cleaned it all out. Actually at this point, I have gone through the entire fuel system, and that was the problem. There must have been gunk there somewhere, because once I put the carb on he poped right off with the hand crank, and no longer had the running rough and dieing issues he had before.
Here is a video of me taking a ride around the yard once I got him running. And yes, I know that the makeshift seat is dangerous, but we are fixing the seat framework, and I needed somewhere to sit! LOL! I only went REALLY slow to be safe, and only to take a quick trip around the yard, then back to the barn for the winter....
Gotta love the bark of the stright pipe, LOL!

Sounds nice and smooth, Jacob! Have fun with Frank. BTW, I also have a 1948 C - my first Allis.

But now that it has run for a little bit, the smoke is gone. So I guess things just needed to be run and used a little. Who knows how long it had been since it ran before I got it. I suspect a number of years, but I could be wrong.... The PO said it had been "a while", LOL!

Boy oh boy, would love to have that one! Check out that Mag! Jacob, what model mag is that? Is it some sort of early Fairbanks-Morse? You might have found a piece of gold and it wasn't even the tractor!

That appears to be the same mag as I have on my 45 C, but I have no idea if it's rare or desirable. Like you, I just thought it was standard equipment.

You know, the C is one of the most agile tractors I sold. Mowed with one for a week at my Grandfather's farm. A joy to work with. Very dependable.
Looks like you got a great buy.
Love the step. You should patten it. If I had a C, B, or CA I would buy it.
Let us know how it goes.
Good Luck!
Bill Long
ps: I can understand the new seat. When you get one running you just can't wait.

GOTTA LOVE IT! Frank is very cool, excellent find! I"m happy to know I'm not the only one who names their tractors. My 1955 WD45 is called Ruby. She was a frankenstien tractor before we restored her too.
Congrats,
Gerald

The step is excellent. You should keep that even if you completely restore him. Maybe mount it on something a little more elegant than a hunk of angle iron, but if it was me, I'd definately keep the step.
