Thank you! I started wet sanding last night and noticed the paint on top of the fenders was a little thin so I masked then off and painted the fenders again last night. Just need to wet sand them and buff them and she is ready for field photos after that.

Wet sanding makes a HUGE difference and is super easy to perform as long as the vehicle has some thick paint or clear coat.
I was using 2000 grit and then a mid aggressive foam pad and Adams paint correcting polish on a high speed orbital. Only takes a couple of minutes to bring the shine back with the polisher and its 10X the shine.

Nice touch up work. I usually find some light areas after i start to assemble. Your polishing work looks very good.

I love the dealer and memorial decals. I know your grandfather would think it looked amazing and be proud. It will always be known as his tractor. Good job taking care of it for him.

Finally got it out of the garage for some photos.





Just need to change oil on it and get the break in oil out of it and paint a couple of oil filters creme for the next years worth of oil changes.

Hopefully starting on a weight bracket soon for the front for a little protection and cover up of the lower piece on the rad cover.

Looks good and you may be able to find the lower knock-out for the grill section if someone has a rough grill laying around with a good bottom. If you want to put it back in . . . .

Painted a oil filter up in creme to break up the orange a bit and dump the break in oil.


So my muffler was the same muffler I had on the engine before the rebuild so it's full of oil from the blowby before. When I start it up now it's blowing that crap out with the engine condensation covering me and more importantly my tractor in black.

So should I go with another Stanley, a Nelson from dj's modified to fit a d15 or do I go chrome stack? I love the look of the stack but I don't want it sounding like a ricer.

What is the sound difference that everyone talks about with a nelson vs Stanley? I have never heard anything but my D15 with a Stanley.

The high pitch rattle is a Stanley special.   Nelson has a lower pitch rumble much easier on the ears.

Anyone heard one with a straight pipe? I am leaning towards a nelson or the spirex one but man I love the look of the stack.

Well I pulled the trigger on this one which I believe is a Nelson:
Muffler

Its supposed to fit the D15 with a little minor modification.

Had a WD with a straight pipe (literally) for a while. Was really loud and sounded pretty bad. Not sure though if it was much worse than the Stanley. I never heard a Nelson.

Thanks for the compliments.
I used PPG Shopline Single Stage Acrylic Urethane paint and a urethane high build primer. For a gallon of paint, the reducer, hardener, and the hardener and one gallon of primer I was at about 450 bucks or so in chemical supplies. I used 3/4 of a gallon in primer and 1/2 a gallon in paint to get it like it sits today.

My friend that is familiar with painting went on and on how nice the stuff sprays and covers. I would agree with him on the covering but I am still too much of a rookie to know if it sprays well.

I used Rustoleum gloss almond for the crème and rustoleum aluminum for the wheels. I mixed them at 4:1:1 with Valspar hardener for enamel paints and used acetone for thinner on the rustoleum stuff.

Couple of updates. I received my "Nelson" style muffler and tried to get it to fit. After trimming a lot of sheet metal to get it to fit around my manifold I realized that the base of the muffler was too low to get the inlet pipe far enought into the manifold to seal. Sounded like hell from the exhaust leak. I went back to the Stanley as I didn't see any quick resolution to the sealing issue and I needed the tractor running.

Got my grader blade home to start on it. Was using the boom pole to get it out of the back of my pickup.

Looking forward to getting the blade cleaned up and painted. As it will be on the tractor the majority of the time.

Happy to see this care for Grampas tractor. I may have a snap coupler plow for that unit Have a D 15 series 2 as well. great tractors. There was an Allis dealer in your adea at St Martins Wi. Do not know if there is anything left there
