I don't like the look of the power steering badge and my d15 and d17 both had the standard ac logo when I got them front and on the wheel same thing.
And both have power steering Edited by Dan73 - 07 Oct 2016 at 9:20am |

Thats how mine was as well. Both the same badge. Just thought I would check. I have honestly never seen one of the power steering ones on a tractor.

Thanks guys for the comments. Much appreciated. I must say it turned out better than I thought it would meaning that I didn't know how far I would go with the body and paint quality when I got started. Cant wait to tear down my Ghetto booth in the garage, crank some Cody Jinks and put her back together.
I still need to paint the generator and strip and paint the taillights and coil. I use a VHT paint called Chassis Epoxy Black. It is super strong and comes out in a semi gloss type finish that should look good. Just a FYI for the big "Allis Chalmers" name plates you need the rivets and those other small clips I have listed above as well. It makes it look like it was from the factory. I messed one up so I need to order a couple of spares and the little rubber cap to the snap coupler lever as well. |

Wow that really does look beautiful. So smooth and glossy. You did great for any painter and especially a first timer! You can be proud of that tractor.

Thanks a lot for the compliments. I couldn't sleep last night so I got up at 4 am and headed out into the shop and got the generator cleaned up and painted a bit and painted the coil and got those all installed and also put the decals on it.
Where does the "Only pull from drawbar" decal go? I looked in my ops manual and couldn't see a clear pic of it. I just need to make the gas line tonight out of copper and she will be running then I can finish up the rear wire harness and get the panels below the tank on. |

I answered my own question. The "Pull Only From Drawbar" goes on the trans housing above the PTO guard. Ill have to be a bit creative on this since my top link bracket covers that spot.

I am still chuckling about this post. I love to learn new stuff so this has been a great project for sure as I am keeping my memories of my grandfather and I fresh in my mind and preparing for the next tractor which will most likely be my Super A but then hopefully another Allis at some point. |

It is soo nice to have a tractor that has been in your family. My grandfather bought my d17 and my uncles farmed with it for a long time. Alot of the time I drive that tractor working the fields I can't help but think of them using the same tractor Un the same fields years back sort of makes me feel like part of something bigger then me or timeless I guess. It is nice to remember the summers spent with them here in the past.

Oh and you can feel free to post about your super A there are alot of us who have some ih products and some in here actually know how to fix them. I have yet to rebuild my h so I will leave myself out of the crowd that knows how to fix them but I will need to figure it out at some point...

Thank you for the comments. I sure think he would be surprised to see it today. He would have never thought I would memorialize it.
To date I estimate I put a little over 70 hours in the paint and body work including the cleaning and about 50 hours or so in the mechanical stuff including time to make some special tools like the sleeve puller (which is crude but got her done). I'll post up my Super A progress as well. Glad to hear I can put that on here as well. Motor is a little loose in it but I am not going to put pistons and sleeves in it at this time. All my IH stuff leaks oil like hell which drives me nuts. My old Super C leaked all over and the final drives I cant seem to get sealed up on the Super A. But my Allis, oh my Allis, she does not leak a drop, starts like nothing I have ever owned before, and runs oh so sweet. I am going to haul home my 3 point blade and subsoiler as I have enough primer and paint to do those so they all match the tractor. Ill be sure to post up the pics of that as well. Well here is my progress on my Super A. I figured I would just to this thread to keep it all in one place. I picked it up two years ago and have been tinkering with it. It's a 1949 model. Major issues were electrical, cracked steering box, busted touch control housing (no lift capacity due to the internal leak), cobbled magneto, leaking radiator, and just generally abused. She was used as a parts tractor to complete another restoration and I couldn't bear to see her go to waste.
Tear down started. Radiator was shot as well. New steering box installed. I went through the mag and it had a external coil installed. I replaced the internal coil, points, and tested the pulse. All tested good. Carb kit installed New radiator, rebuilt generator and missing regulator installed and built a harness for it. Rebuilding the touch control unit: Picked up a 12 inch plow as well: Built my own draft control link: Starting to pound out the grill. She's really really rough: That's about as far as I made it before I switched my focus to the Allis. All the paint on this was just rattle can Valspar which I would like to respray with a higher quality paint when I get the tin done. I basically made it to the body work and stalled out as I had no idea what I was doing. Now that I am wrapping up the Allis bodywork I will try to tackle this one this spring when it warms up again (no heat in my shop). Edited by bigredisb - 14 Oct 2016 at 10:15am |

Looks like that little girl is keeping you busy. I looked at one of those once but the welded block and smoking motor was enough to make me walk away. Nice little tractors though.

It had a funky casting mark below the generator area on the block that I thought was a weld on this block until I cleaned it up luckily. The touch control unit block was cracked big time and I replaced with one off a Super C.
It just puffs smoke when you start it but cleans up after about 5 minutes. Compression numbers are all good and even so it should be good for a while. My definition of a smoker is probably more strict than some. Any smoke even at startup makes me want to rebuild something! Edited by bigredisb - 14 Oct 2016 at 10:22am |

Probably valve stem seals if it stops smoking. The one I looked at was more like a smoke machine then a tractor I am sure the motor had a blown head gasket from a poor block repair weld went half way down the block on one side.

Thanks Steve. My whole family on my Dads side are all automotive repair minded so I just grew up around it.
I decided that I like heavy equipment better and started working on it rather than auto stuff and ended up being a technical trainer teaching techs how to repair Case IH and Case Construction equipment. Over time I managed the department and then moved on to manage all types of training in North America for CNH. A lot of good people work here and are very passionate about products so it was a good fit. I learned a lot of fab stuff when I was into jeeps building roll cages and custom powertrain configurations as well so I got into building my own stuff for the most part. A good buddy of mine is a complete and total fab genius so I have learned a lot from him as well. In my mind we never stop being an apprentice. We should learn something on the job everyday. You did an amazing job. I love the custom decals as well really brings it back to a personal level and reminds you of its history. Sometimes we see a restored tractor and forget it was once someone's living working it in the fields. Well done.
