I need some muffler schooling.  I bought a muffler for my C and it won't fit the hole in the hood.  My previous muffler was a pipe, then muffler, then pipe at the top.  The small pipe at the bottom fit down into the manifold after the hood was installed.  This muffler is "fat" and muffler all the way to the manifold.  Could someone tell me the proper muffler to use for the C.  By the way, I have 4 holes in my hood.  I guess the fourth is for a small gas tank to start?

what you had before was an ac-1 stanley (more than likely) and you got something like an ac-2 or 3  because it says it will fit a C, and it will if your c has the big hole in the hood, your hood is made for the underhood muffler thats why it has the small hole, if your hood is in good shape I wouldnt cut the hole bigger,  either buy an ac-1 or an underhood muffler

Since you already have an extra hole in the hood I would open up the hole for the muffler you have. To patch the extra hole you would need to repaint in any case.

I have the under hood style muffler on my B since it has the small hood hole

Otherwise you need to get this style for your C

The short fat style you purchased fits a CA or late model B with the large hole like as shown on my CA

The extra hole is for a gas tank and that means the hood and probably the engine is from a power unit like what's on a pull-type combine. I prefer the under the hood tank style muffler because of tree branches but some after market under the hood ones I've found do not fit without modification. I've had to grind the manifold down so the muffler will get into the manifold or the tank will hit the top of the manifold at the neck area.

The under hood tank was the start tank for gas when you have a dual fuel setup. The power units could have both but they had another hole in the center to the back with a square end fuel/gas tank.

I forgot about the dual fuel tractors. My Dad's C has the power unit hood from an All Crop I believe because it also has the holes for the rods to bolt through for holding the tall exhaust pipe.

Yes, I have a hood like that. It was on B I bought one time but was a power unit hood at one time.
