My guess is they're both Made in China, same factory, and have the same lousy nonwarranty ( electrical part).
I've heard coils go often though never why.... funny(not really) that  we've got 40 year old lawnmowers still runing with original coils.....
I'd check the warranty especially if it's a nightmare install.

I have bought a dozen off e-bay ( 5-6  years ago) for $10 EACH.... Get a SET for $75.  I was needing a "replacement" about once every 12- 18 months.. Had a 5.4 from  2003- 2018.

Takes about 10 minutes to change ONE coil, so i never worried about LONG TERM.

its not that bad.. #8 is more HID in the back, but there is only 1 screw to remove.... Actually takes more time to do #5 or 6 because you have to remove steering pump bracket....... I had two F150s over 15 years and put put 250K miles on them... Not uncommon to have a coil failure every year or so.

2  minutes to get the step stool and tools, 2 minutes to get the air cleaner ducting out of the way, 1 1/2 minutes to R@R, 2 minutes to replace ducting, 1 1/2 minutes to clear the code, 2 minutes to put tools/stool away ConfusedConfused ?? Am I close ??
Now this is with me pulling into your shop with the engine still STEAMING hot, you can't take minutes off for your "patties" to not get singed WinkWink.

I am using Bosch replacements from Rock Auto. Got 2 in the tool box just in case. They can be a pia to change, especially for an old fat man like me.

You could try replacing just the boot, if you can find them. I discovered sometimes it's not the coil/ but the boot braking down.
I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27

Lou, the boots and plugs have less than 9,000 miles on them Wink, to my knowledge, other than the 2 coils that got replaced at the dealer a month ago and 1 that we found during the plug/boot replacement, the other 5 are original, 170,000 miles.

We been buying used ones from our local salvage yard. Always keep 4-6 of them in a box behind the seat.   Dang V10 usually eats 1 every couple of months. Getting low again. Gonna be going by the salvage lot on Wed. Should stop In and pickup a few more.

To those that "stock" coils, how do you know which one ('s) to change ?? Got the buggy running great for now, took ALOT longer than 10 minutes and it's been a long time since I've sliced 3 fingers and the backhand open, plus a sore rib leaning over the radiator/ps pump LOLLOL . I could not IMAGINE what it's like working on a van ConfusedOuch !!

$50- $100 CODE READER....... Code P0301 is missfire #1... code P0302 is missfire #2 .... missfire does not always mean BAD COIL , but that works 90% of the time.

Some younger guys use an APP called Torque Pro that they download onto cell phone or computer and need a special cable to connect... Can do that for $20..... but im not tech savy.

Thank you for the reply Steve Wink. When I ran Dodges, I could "toggle" the key switch to get the C/E light to put out a "morse code" that could be deciphered by the auto parts store SmileSmile.

Something to that effect.  The technology lost, was of the engineers who knew intimately how the coil did what it did, and how it was best made to survive it's function in the underhood environment.

Most infatuated with 'new tech' label me a Luddite of sorts, when it comes to the experimental whiz-bang of today, but the reality is, that they're ignorant of the technology proven by those generations before.  An industrial engine of 60 years ago seems whimsical to those of modern-disposition, but due to a short-sighted construance of 'tech', those same critics fail to recognize the amount of development and proving that allowed something to be simple, robust, and reliable.

That being said, I'll note that the magneto on my 1956 Hercules JXLD generator was given a rebuild by John Boyens ONCE some 16 years ago, and it never misses.

In contrast, I've had spark-ignited Fords since we ditched the PowerStroke 4 years ago, and in our 8-truck tech fleet including V10 and V8, we've had at least 76 coil-on-plug units replaced. and 11 spark plugs blown out of aluminum heads.

The 'official report' is that there is 'nothing wrong', which means such failures are now considered 'normal'... therefore, failure is apparently accepted as 'normal'... the only thing that is apparently 'wrong', is simply that this has yet to be incorporated into any official company slogan.
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

Thanks for the reply Dave, but IMO, the "76" is about "70" too many and I would be jumping ship Confused WAY too much aggrevation for "me" that runs this truck for me to take time off for "diagnosis/repair/$$$$". Never dreamed that a USA manufactured product was such a POS Ouch !!
