OK, I'm looking at a possible purchase of an electric motor for my compressor but have come up on something I've never seen,,,,! The motor is BIG in size but Tag does not list the HP. The dude says it was on a big two stage compressor with cylinders about 4" and 3" in size. Can someone tell me what HP the motor is based on following tag numbers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Model= 78 182TCDR7026AA WCW Frame= 182T Type CDR-LE RPM= 1750 Serial = 638868 volt= 115/230 AMP= 23.2 / 11.6 AMB 40° C The tag does not list motor Mfgr either.

easy... 230 volts x 11.4 amps = 2,662 watts 2662/745 = 3.57 HP so... consider this to be a 3.5HP motor now 'big' in size could mean it's OLD.... the 'frame' style/number is kinda important as it tells you the mounting stuff(holes, sizes, shaft distance from ground....) have a look at the shaft diameter ! it 'could' be 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1 1/8.....even an oddball size like 7/8"....... hmm 1750 so 'low' speed ,check what YOU have. Most 'modern' air compressors run 'high speed' motors (3450+-)..

182T is the FRAME SIZE... that tells you the bolt pattern / shaft diameter ..... The motor is BIG because it runs 1750 rpm so needs a lot more "STUFF" inside to put out the HP... if it was a 3400 rpm motor , it would be much smaller...

you could use a 182T or a 184T motor of 3 HP single phase........ both will have a 1-1/8 inch shaft and both will be the same distance from the front mounting holes to the pulley... the 184T would be slightly bigger base as the back two holes would be an inch further back from the pulley as compared to the 182T
any other "frame size" motor would be a smaller/ larger shaft size and different base bolt pattern. this is a basic idea of what you need... again, it is a 184T and not a 182T so the bolt pattern is off 1 inch in the BACK.. .. shaft / HP / and front mount are all the same as 182T Edited by steve(ill) - 23 Feb 2022 at 1:37pm |

seems they also have higher starting torque and an external reset(overload) red button compared to 'regular' motors.
