What follows are pictures of a planter that had been mounted on a Model G at one time.

It's buried under stuff in a shed and I couldn't get to it to see better.  I took some pictures and I'll post them here.  It doesn't look Allis to me but I'd like some opinions.

Allis or not.  If not, can anyone identify it?

The first shot my flash didn't go off.  The planter is located behind the barbed wire and under the walk-behind seeder (no, not the shiney upside down bucket - Ha!).

Those do not look like the Planet-Jr unit's on the G I just brought home. I remember reading somewhere that Planet-Jr's were at least one option of planter available.

The planet JR seed boxes are square, with a square lid. Not sure what those are.

In comparing the pictures with drawings in my G emplement parts manual, it has possibilities of being Allis Chalmers but can't tell for sure. Some of the parts appear to be AC. Maybe it is a Hybrid?  JB

I don't know about the planter, but the general organization of the stuff looks like a few sheds i own :>). Be careful that American Pickers don't get ahold of this LOL. Bob@allisdowneast

Scott,

Where do you ever find this stuff?

I've just thumbed through the Allis  "Dealer's Repair Parts Catalog for Model 'G' Implements" from February 1953 where I keyed on trying to identify the planter press wheel.  Nothing like it the book.  I suppose this planter could have been introduced by Allis between '53 and the end of G production.  Or it could be shop built and painted orange.

The genius of mid century small farmers is always fascinating.  Let us know if you add this item to your collection and figure out its lineage.

Well done gentlemen!

I found the Cole Planter Web site and I agree that the buried unit in my picture appears to be made by this company.

Looks like they still produce something pretty similar.

I guess the next question is:  Was this a farmer/dealer modification of the planter or did Cole produce a "Model G" version?

Best regards,

Scott
