Went to fire it up after sitting in the shed all winter. Hoping it's just a welsh plug gone bad Any suggestions as to where to look first?

If its the freeze plugs in the head, your "level" will drop 1-2 quarts and stop.... If its the o-rings on the piston liners, it will drain 3/4 of the block. Freeze plugs are a good first start... Pull the drain plug and see how much antifreeze is in the oil.. You have to remove the oil pan to inspect drips from the liners.

That's exactly what I should have done first!! I dropped the pan first only to find out it came from the top. The pinhole was so small in the plug that it was nearly impossible to detect and of course they look perfect from the top in the presence of oil. The reason I dropped the pan first was that I had replaced one liner only a few weeks earlier and drew the conclusion that the liner didn't seal properly.

That gives me some hope; there was less than a quart of coolant in the pan. Thanks to all for the advise, I have a few things to attend to before I can get to it but will definitely report back when I do.
