First if you don't have one already buy a manual. It will  more than pay for itself when wrenching on your B.
It is possible the shifter is no longer engaged with a gear and when the lever appears to be in neutral, the transmission is still in gear. You may want to drain the transmission fluid(probably got water and crud in it anyway) and take the side cover off to inspect the tranny. Once you find the problem you can repair it and clean things up..

push the gears into the neutral position with a screw driver. Leave the side cover / forsk off. See that everything turns by hand. Crank the motor and see if it still moves. Top shaft should rotate toward the PTO, but lower shafts and gears are not engaged.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

If it is kind of a half hearted lunge I would suspect the clutch is hanging up on the splines.  Now  if it is doing a leap frog type of thing it must be stuck in two gears.

Sounds like one of the forks on the side plate is not engaged in the one of the gear grooves. It is real easy for one of the slide gears to move when re installing the side plate.
