I just finished tuning up my distributor and after setting the points wrong and then setting them right. my starter will make this kind of a grinding sound and slow down. My friend says my starter may be going bad. Does anyone have any advice for this problem because I want to get my tractor running and I don want to buy a new starter.

 Simple, use the crank. My B will start on the second or third quarter turn of the crank. If yours is tuned up properly and has no internal problems it will do the same.
 If your bushings are wore out in the starter, using it will just cause more damage.

It's not very hard to replace the brass bearings in the starter.

Pull starter and check for worn bushings and also for a cracked or broken nose cone. If it was working good before the tune up I would suspect something broken instead of worn.

If it just immediately started doing that, check your cables and connections. If its been raining lately at your house like it has been all week at my house, the moisture can play havoc with electrical connections... HTH

I want to be able to crank start it but I don't have a crank and new ones run around 45 bucks. I have a friend who said he can come over and check it out and he is the best tractor guy I know. My tractor is also on a hill so I probably could get it rolling and then pop the clutch but who wants to do that every time.
