Sorta depends on what was the "cause of death" If the windings are open it'll be real hard.
Have you checked ALL the connections, battery, ground, and starter switch etc.?

i think a brush let loose it just all of a sudden made a god awful noise and died. Then if i whopped it with a piece of wood and pushed the button it would go now nothin.

May be just a brush hanging up. Take it apart and clean things up. To hold the brushes back when assembling, I took a couple pieces of 12ga wire and made little z shaped things. It frees up both hands for lining things up.
 I don't think you can go wrong taking it apart and checking it out. I did the starter on my G and ended up taking it to a shop, but it had a bad solder connection, bad brushes and I wanted a new button put on for the starter switch. Wasn't over $50 to get it back.

I would pull the switch off first and see if the contacts are corroded or full of crid. Wire brush... Jump the wire to the starter lug (switch removed) and see if it cranks.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
