This plow seems taller than my other plows. My manual doesn't mention a high clearance but is definitely taller than my others. Is the stub beam longer on the high clearance? Did Allis make differant height plows in the 80 series? "http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z306/5683tracym/Picture017.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Easiest way is use the full reply editor, not the quick post. In the post box click on the button beside the A the one with the arrow pointing to the upper right. In their click on the insert image button (looks like a tree). Input the image url, in your case it would be http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z306/5683tracym/Picture017.jpg and for the width enter 640 and height enter 480. This gives it a decent sized image. Hope that helps.

I've not seen any mention of tall vs short shanks in the plow frames book I have. Its available on line from http://www.grandpastractor.com/phpBB3/index.php You might look to see if its shown under 9000 in that book. I didn't think 83 would have the top beam, but I could be wrong. I don't have that parts book at the computer tonight. There is a spring trip shank shown separately that the description says for model 60 and 80 plows, separate from the spring trip shanks shown in the model 80 plow frames. Look at the spring trip arrangement as it could have changed with time.

Tracy, yes they did make a taller high clearance plow.
I have a model 82, 3-point plow, nothing modified and 3 inches taller.

The truss bar on top of the plow frame was standard on a 4-bottom plow and was optional on the 3-bottoms. My brother has a similar plow that would barely clear the ground on his D-17IV. He switched out the stub beams with some from a 9000 plow which were about 3" shorter.

Tracy, If you copy the Image code from photobucket, all you have to do is paste that code in with your text. It's real simple. with the url you posted you need a set of brackets [ ] with img inside em and at the end you add a / between the first bracket and the img.
If you add the brackets to a picture URL you can post any picture you find on the web in with your text, even from the quick reply space. |

I can't tell relative shank length from the parts book. But the trip is typical of later rather than earlier spring trip shanks, like applied to the 9000.
Longer shanks take a stronger trip mechanism but slow down plow plugging in corn stalks. I've come to like a semi mounted plow on a long frame like my 2000 over a closely coupled three point because the greater front to rear spacing is harder to clog. Some IH 720 and 740 have much longer shanks to raise the beam further and have a great reputation for handling corn stalks very well. Gerald J. |

I took a look at the plow today versus my others. Trips on it just like my 82 -3 point. I have a 4 bottom SC with differant trips on it. The sring at rear of beam has a triangle shaped holder it rides in. The plow in pic, matches pic of plow in my manual as an 83, and has the truss beam on it. Wondering what the other plow would be? Didn't take any pics. Thanks Tracy
