Went to an auction sale 10 minutes from home today since there were a couple of ACs - the rest were green, but everything was very well kept. Had to endure 5 hours getting chilled while they sold off small items on wagons, but I think it was worth it in the end. I had a feeling that things would work in my favor when my bidding ticket was numbered 226...
This 1957 WD45 was bought new buy the current owner's father and was used mainly for planting corn. Aside from the painted front rims it is a good original survivor and those duals just scream cool. The odd thing about it is that it has a pin hitch with an aftermarket 3 point. The engine would crank over but not fire due to the bad plug wires (and the guy flooding it). When the bidding was finished, I became the new owner for $900! ![]() ![]() My good luck didn't end there. I got these rear wheel weights for $60! ![]() Also got a pail of lift arm latches, a pail containing the WD45 snap coupler and 3 top links for $20 ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the 3rd top link. I think it is a factory AC one with the wheel but cannot find any casting number. Can anyone tell me if this is the real thing? ![]() The other AC was this 1952 WD with an old and poorly done paint job. It sold for $2300, but I did not buy it. ![]() My plan for the 45 is to keep it as a good original. Fix the leaks, scrape the oil and dirt from it, fix the nasty wiring, replace the gauges and put a generator back on it for originality purposes. Even with the cold weather, it turned out to be a pretty good day for me! |

DSeries 4 - Nice purchase on the WD 45 with duals. Did the Canadian Provincial Police leave crime scene tape where the WD 45 sat? You got a great deal on that tractor!!! Glad you got it and will be joining your stable of nice AC tractors.

OEM top link and those fine thread units are actually quite stout. Use a couple for short work and watch the wheel section as they do break when dropped.
Have seen them advertised for 150.00. |

Great WD45! Thanks for sharing photos. Please share photos of it running & waxed up original pumpkin orange paint. How'd the decals survive?

You did good.
We just had the local spring "junk" sale. i came home with a 14" chop saw - happier than a pig in you know what. Plugged it in and it did not hit a lick. ![]() At least i got a refund and did not have to sell it by the pound. |

I have a top link like that on my D15 series II. Came with the tractor when we bought it about 1969 or 70.

Great work Myron. I've seen the A-C top link with the cast wheel sell for up to $200 15 years ago. You had a good day!

OH yea, how come so many of these have that angle iron welded to the front end?? Mine had one to. I took the grinder to mine and threw it into the scrap pail.

If you are actually farming with one its very handy to have a hitch on the front of a tractor sometimes. |

Very nice WD45! You did good and the price was in your favor. Its going to be nice when your done! I saw a very rough non running WD45 go for $400 Saturday.
Maybe I will add one someday. But for now the old WD's give me a chance to do a little wood hauling. Regards, Chris |

I was there. It was a good tractor for that money. The fact that it didnt start at the sale brought it down alot. Was definitely a nice strait tractor.

I gotta agree with you. I am sure if it ran, it would have brought a lot more money. The wire going from the coil to distributor was pretty much non existent, so no wonder the engine would not fire. When I picked it up on Sunday morning, I took a new wire from our 54 WD45. Found the starter is a little wonky was well, but after pulling it 6' she fired right up! Drove it on the 45 minute ride home and I was all smiles! No smoke or sputtering on the big hills at all. Today, I found out the guy I was bidding against was my boss from work! I did not see him at the time. Once he saw he was bidding against me, he backed off! Said he was bidding on it because it was cheap! It's running in this picture, but you can't tell. ![]() I'll get a video of it after I change the oil and replace the plug wires! |
