How fast can you safely turn a stock wc flywheel?

Antique clubs generally always limit maximum engine RPM's. Some are stock.....some are 10% over stock......some are 20%, 30% etc. Many insurance companies who insure tractor pulls, require a 3,000 RPM ceiling for safety purposes on tractors that are considered "stock". I don't really know what you're a thinkin' , but a new WC flywheel with no cracks whatsoever is surely safer than a 70 yr old flywheel with dozens of cracks. That being said, I've never been afraid to wind a WC to 3,000 RPM, but that's just me. When I say that, I mean with a good clutch and pressure plate that is NOT slipping at 3,000 RPM.

Yep, When I pulled my 45 engine out to replace the clutch, it about scared me hafl to death. Cracks in the flywheel went all the way thru and were 3 to 4 inches across the face of the flywheel. I don't think I would want to be around that flywheel at 3K. I wouldn't want to have to fix the thing if the flywheel did come apart.
Add a little slipping while pulling and the cracks can go deep and long real fast.
