My 185 ran a JD 436 with pan kicker for the first time. Pan kicker worked flawlessly... alert never missed a knot...
My 185 has the hydraulic PTO engagement and is so.... handy.... |

Worked for neighbor, 40 some years ago, he had a JD 336 w/pan kicker. Never missed a knot, or had a busted bale, but every once in awhile that pan wouldn’t return all the way back. Never could figure the problem in the 3 years I worked for him. We tried everything, new return springs, lubed everything real good, changed the fluids, etc. Otherwise a darn good baler, if I remember right, he either ordered it with the optional wider pickup, or he bought the 336 because it had the widest pickup on the market at the time. He did not rake his hay, he adjusted the haybine to windrow just wide enough for the baler pickup.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Cool story.
This baler is well used and a little abused but I bought it right. Greased and oiled it up. Adjusted a few chains and it worked like it should. I am very happy. Sorry I didn't take any photos of the rig. |
