Been working on it for a couple of months (off & on), didn't know anything about  them when I started and don't know much now, the case was broken where the bottom mounting bolt goes and a chip was out of the top,  but I did get a spark out of it today... the gears didn't have any timing marks so the spark was on #4, so I'll have to re-time it to #1.  Pretty happy to just have a spark..........  This is an old FM with the one piece front cover.   Tim

Oh yeah I got the case repaired too.

Once you see how they work, it's pretty simple. The same identical technology is used on a lawn mower engine. If you can figure it out, pull the magnet out and recharge it. I have done many FM and Wico mags on Wisconsin engines. I don't think I could explain how to remove the magnet, (it's in the part that spins) but I have recharged them with a spool of wire and a 6 amp 12V power supply I built in high school. A strong magnet seems to help those old cantankerous Wisconsins start a little better.

I don't want to hijack this thread but, how do you recharge a magnet? Never heard of that. And if you can recharge one can you reverse the polarity of a magnet like this.

Reversing is harder than recharging. Just takes a strong magnetic field from a coil of wire and lots of DC current.

Sounds like you have a FM K series mag. It is best to remagnetize the magnets while in the housing. If you have any questions send me an email or give me a call 812-272-0584.  Jeremy
