Going to look at a 190XT later this week. Gas engine. Runs good. With the cold winters we've had the past couple of years I'm thinking about going to a gas chore tractor to feed with. Easier to start than a big diesel.
The guy that has it says that it doesn't jump any gears, but it won't go into 1/2. Also the power director is a little slow to shift. Haven't looked at it yet, it's pretty close to home. Won't know any more info until I go take a look. Just wondering what I may be getting in to. I know could be a lot of things. Tractor is priced around $2k. I know it will also need 1 rear rim, and probably a set of front tire. Looks pretty good in pictures other than that.

Tighten up the two 1/2" bolts in the gearshift linkage tunnel. You'll probably never use 1-2 anyway.

A $2k 100 series that runs good and rolls uphill sounds like a winner to me.

If ever there is an ideal application for a Capacitor Discharge ignition, this is it. The MSD (Multiple Spark Discharge) ignition system is ideally suited for this. The MSD 6 can be triggered by the existing breaker points (they will NEVER wear out) and it then delivers at least three very high energy, short duration sparks in rapid succession; CD ignition will fire through fouled plugs better than anything else.

If you really, truly need an old gasoline engine to start reliably in the cold, the MSD is money well spent (along with a good engine heater, of course).

The best, simplest and most reliable ignition upgrade for any point type system in my opinion would be to install a Petronix electronic ignition conversion. I've had some that have been in use for decades. Plugs also seem to last forever without even needing to be cleaned.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.

For comparison, here’s a month old Craigslist listing for an AC 190 gas in the Montrose, MI area.

Update on this tractor. It ended up following me home. It does need some work, but I'm thinking nothing major. I knew it had a bad rear rim, but owner was taking it for a drive and the rim came apart. He ended up having another good one, so threw it in on the deal. Got it for $1800. Runs like a new one, no smoke. Fires right up when cold. He had tuned it up previously. Hydraulics and 3 point are strong. Brakes are really good.
Now the bad. Needs a set of front tires. Has 6.50-16 on it now. I'm thinking of going to something wider, possibly a 4 rib as I may end up putting a loader on it. Not sure if a 10.00-16 will be too tall. Has 18.4-34 on the rear.
Needs an exhaust manifold, if I can find one. Cracked pretty bad around the back of the outlet and I doubt I can patch it.
Won't go into 1-2 gear. Just acts like it's locked out. Hoping to get cover off the trans and see it's it's a shift fork. 1-2 is so low probably won't use it anyhow.
All other gears are fine, but will jump out of 7-8.
PD seems soft in 7-8, and does have some creep in N, but I haven't had it warmed up.
Fuel pump leaking at weep hole. Thinking of going electric.
Missing grill.

Would be interested in a used manifold if anyone had one laying around.
I figured it was a cheap chore tractor, and will be a good backup if I need one.

Does it even "grind" in 1-2 (low ) gear when you try to shift it in without using the clutch ??

No grind at all. Feels like trying to shift to the other side of Reverse if you get what I mean. Just like nothing there.
