Anybody ever stretch the wheelbase on an 8000 series FWA? looks like it could be done fairly easy of course you'd have too have a longer driveshaft,hoses etc... would make for a better ride and they already turn plenty short.

Abam we had one here a few years ago and your right it did have a better ride and it b turned better also . Don't rember who we sold it to are where it went but talked to some out in Kansas that has one also he loves it Niel

We had a dealer that tried that in the Rio Grande Valley.  They did a lot of bedding work and needed to make sharp turns at the ends.  Then they used the brakes to try and make the turns.  Then they started burning up brakes and filing warranty claims.  As he was a big dealer, I ended up making a trip to "investigate" and explain why the warranty claims were going to be denied.

The improvement in ride had more to do with Deere advertising then reality.  If you do it, don't abuse the brakes in turns.

yes there was a kit , can't remember who or where came from, but there were pictures posted to all AC dealers. Pretty simple to do was the claim. It bettered the ride and gave more leverage for lift and helped 'power hop'  but it did not improve the turning radius any.

I did it to my 8010 in April 2009.  Moved axle ahead 14" so it now has a 110" wheel base.  That along with the wide tread setting of 84" front and 90" rear and switching to larger RADIAL tires has made it a super tractor for round baling and spraying (when spraying with 3pt sprayer I straddle 3-30" rows).  It takes more room to turn with the axle ahead and with the larger tires I can't really go less than a 78" front tread without setting the steering stops or hitting the frame and hood panels.

SOOO...has anyone lengthened a 2 whl drv.?My 8070 beats the h#ll out of you on rough ground.Even took all the frt weights off. My 220 rides smoother.Haven't measured them up to see what is so different.I suspect seat VS rr axle has more effect than whl base.

So got the axle moved tonight, driveshaft is at the shop...should be done tomorrow; was really easy...wonder why Allis put them so far back to start with?

I think John Day company had a kit for the 2WD 7000 series at one time, and might have had a kit for 8000?
I had a 7050 stretched out like that and it made it ride better. I bought it that way and finally had to park it next to my other 7050 to figure out what was different about them. I knew they looked different, but I just couldn't quite put my finger on it. I traded that 7050-looking back I wish I would have figured out a way to keep it.

I like the long wheel-base 7050, Are the kits still available? What do they cost? Id like to do that to my 7060 and 7080.

Did the kit replace the center tube of the axle?  It looks like the front "loop" is not as long on the tractor with the lengthened wheelbase.

a friend of mine wondered about reverseing his front axle on his 7000 to lengthen it a little, don't know if it would work though.

I have talked to a guy that works at Agco that used to work for Allis. I remember him saying that they reversed the front axles on some 2wd 8000's for some customers special needs. I cannot remember what for though. So yes i guess it would be possible to reverse the axle.

I'd have to go look again.Seemed to me that there would be clearance issue on something with the axle to just turn it around.Maybe I wasn't visualizing it right.I'll look again.

It lengthened the w/b about 11 inches, if I remember right. The steering cylinder mount was moved away from the axle tube a little (toward rear axle) for some reason and the long tie rod that connects the steering arms was arched to clear it and reinforced. The hydraulic hoses were extended and the bracing in front was reconfigured to fit closer to the axle tube. It was a pretty involved conversion, but I think the kit from John Day was simpler. I never saw one, but it sounded much less complex.
You won't learn anything in regards to the axle in this video, but the ol' 7050 sure sounded pretty!

Well took the 8030 out choring today...What a difference!!! wish I would have done this right after i got it!!! rode better and since I have a front end loader was able too set the steering stops in and actually turn shorter with no clearance issues!!!

FWA's were 96in whl bse,2WD 106 and 220 was 100in.220 seat is near center of rear axle and 8070 is about 11in ahead of center.Stupid engineers!

I have an 8070 FWA that rides ruff as heck.  We farm 400 acres and 85% of it is straight run line stuff.  This is our work tractor that we do fall and spring tillage with. 

I'm trying to convince my dad and brother that this is what we need to do to the machine.  My dad has a bad back and as of right now no one is enjoying running this tractor.  We just bought it last winter when the 7060 shelled a motor (which my dad ended up rebuilding) and the ride on the 8070 is much harder. 

How much money / time does it take to move this thing ahead?  Is this something someone of modest mechanical ability can do in a marginally well equipped shop? 

It's been a good year and we've got some extra money.  I'd much rather fix this tractor than spend $5-$15k trading for something else.  Can you do this for $1k-$1,500?  Also, I'm planning on putting in a high end air ride seat...I'd take thoughts on that as well.

Finally...does this operation make the 8000 FWAs ride a lot better?  We also have an 8010 2wd and we have no complaints really about that machine...will the extended FWA ride as good or better than that?

Here is a link to a 7060 with the extended wheelbase. I wonder if it was a factory option?!?!? I just looked at my 7040 and 7080, The only difference is the axle is in front of the rear support and the front "wishbone" is shortend. It looks to be a very easy swap.

A new seat and suspension from K&M out of MN would probably do more for your ride cheaper than stretching the wheel base. The new air ride seats do a much better job than 1980 technology.

Update...thanks to the forum member that called me back and told me about the improved ride of moving the front end...will be doing that this summer.

Put in K&m seat and it makes it much better...well worth the investment.

I did this a couple years ago to our 8050.

Then we put on a set or 20.8r42's and 16.9r28's.
7095-685I at 255hp, 8070-225HP,8050-210Hp,8030 with 155HP,220 with 670T engine with A-pump, 7580, 185 with 140HP, 2-6080's,6070, S4 D17,wd45,CA,st34 agco, S1 D17 with 3500MK2

So do you feel it was a big difference maker on your 8050 as well?  

Adam in MO is the member that called me back, I couldn't see that on the Ipad last night when  I posted...but I wanted to thank him for his time and calling me back.  

Adam has convinced me to do this, and I'm over ruling dad and my brother, but I'd love an additional testimonial.  

Adam has told me that it makes the tractor ride better and takes out some of the 'hop' as well.  As I said last night, we did put in a new K&N seat as well...and it makes a big difference.  That being said, I'm still moving the front end.

Yeah that was me. lol We have a 8070 and 8030 that are still in the stock spot. When i drive this one i cant tell the difference in the turning at all. It is not that much more. And if you need to turn alittle shorter just tap the brakes alittle.
