This WC belonged to my son in laws grandpa. He was the guy that let me squirrel hunt for years before I had a SIL. He bought this tractor new and we pulled it out of the timber in May 1999. I talked to 4 different people that put a lot of time in on this tractor back in the day but unfortunatly they all passed before I got her running.
I had the rolling chassis primed and the crank, sleeves and pistons in the engine by the spring of 08 when my work on her came to a screeching halt. I ended up hiring a guy to get her running so now I can tinker around finishing up. This was the first time I started it and I can hear she needs a little tweaking. I have to either get the original carb rebuilt of fab up an air inlet hose. The hood has two extra holes in it and the fenders need a little hammer work. A few other details like wiring her up and she'll be ready for a long time to come I hope. Don't get sea sick watching the video. [TUBE]VBR4vi62Gkc[/TUBE] |

A man of few words!
I know its going to be a good running tractor when you get her "tuned up".
No smoke and that governor has a nice quick response.
I notice you have one of those good old Forney stick welders at your place.

Some day my granddaughter will say, "my great grampa bought this tractor new."
Brian, that welder belonged to our next door neighbor when I was a kid. There wasn't any of the neighbors that learned how to make it work cause they kept the rods on top of the welder and put the cardboard box over it for storage. The rods were always damp. The son of the original owner bought it at the estate auction and gave it to me if I would do some welding for him once in a while. John, I have been doing pretty good, just not enough of it. My pants keep shrinking, must be the water?? I can walk without a limp for about a 100 feet and then my hips start bothering. The doc that put my legs back together says this will not improve without hip replacement. Arrrgh! |

WC12350, 1935 Max. I picked that mag up at our spring swap meet several years ago and traded a IH vacuum pump for the rebuild. The original owner had put a distributor on it years ago and I just might go back to that. I haven't decided yet.

Good lookin' WC, Charlie. I always liked those early WCs, but they are really hard to find around here. Easier to find 20-35s than flattop WCs.

Glad to see you climbing on and off and swinging your legs around like that! Lena looks good too. I'm sure you will get the burrs knocked down, and she'll be running like a fine watch in no time.

Leroy put the starter on it way back. There were 4 different stamps on each rod cap so I believe she's had work done before. One of the stories I was told about Lena was " the M just didn't do the trick on the silage blower so we tried the WC. It work so good it got a permanent job on the blower." When I took the front pedestal apart, I found the timken bearing in the bottom hammered notches in the race from sitting in one spot working.
AC37, if you have a one piece hand crank, I would let you donate it so I can film the proper hand start procedure. LOL |

OK Charlie Now you two can load the old gal up and come back down for my fall plow day. The guy with the little WC that was here last year is building a pull plow for his baby WC and I think it will be nice to have a big WC here to plow along with it. hint-hint
And I think your film crew did a fine job on the filming of "Lena" coming back home. lol
Yes it's grate to see you getting on and off your tractor again! good job there.
Don

Lena was my Grandmother and Leapin Lena was the first tractor I remember steering at about 4 or 5 years old. I was tossed up on the neighbors lap and remember it better than yesterday. The neighbor called his tractor Leapin Lena cause of a grabby clutch. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 25 Mar 2011 at 8:32pm |

Your Lena is a lot like my Matilda --- but I have to crank her to get her going. Three cranks and we are off and running. Love the unstyled WC's. You are certainly a lot more mobile than the last time I saw you -- at Dale's 2 or 3 summers ago, can't remember which. Still hobbling around on crutches then. Glad to see you climbing on tractors again.

Good deal Charlie. Now you've got to bring it to Dales show this July. LOL
PS: Glad you are getting around so much better. Can't say as I blame you on hip replacement surgery. After all you;ve been through, surgery probably is not a nice word for you. God Bless.

Forney Industries is still in business in Ft Collins, Co although it's not like in the old days when Mr Forney, the founder ran it. Still sell welding supplies but I don't think they build anything anymore.
Nice WC by the way! Enjoyed the video. Is that 1960's Mustang in front of the garage another of your projects? Edited by JohnCO - 26 Mar 2011 at 11:51am |
