How safe is your keyless entry system and push button start - NO Key Needed
Seems his truck was found on a dock inside shipping container ready to load for overseas shipment . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tQVov0Ra8g |

I just ordered a new truck and, of course, it will have the fob instead of a key (truck is supposed to be built this week). After watching that video, I just ordered two of the pouches he recommended ($10.99 each on Amazon).
Thanks for posting !!! |

A cloner can be near to you when hit the FOB to lock or unlock and especially when remote start(Winter) as my wife does. They then clone your FOB and drive off with your machine, no pouch or lead balloon wrap can stop that as your fobs have to send a signal to access your own machine and are exposed when do so. Same for CC cloners, they do not have to scan your card, just be close by when use chip readers and can clone off the signal these produce.

the EASY wasy to stop them from stealing your ride, is to put a 'hidden' swotch in series with the powerfeed fuelpump (right pass kick panel on F150s..) when armed ,truck will start and go for maybe 2-5 minutes, then never restart. 'old skool' but it works....

I just do not understand WHY anybody would feel that inserting a key in the ignition switch was so much work,,,,that the engineers had to design such an easily compromised system,,,,,???? When the insurance Companies get tired of paying for enough stolen vehicles,,,they'll get em back to ignition keys,,,,?? A lot of these NEW inventions are just to impress the jones down the street,,,,,

well DJ, GM sill can't make an ignition assembly that doesn't fail..... it 'must' be easier for an electrical 'engineer' to design an electronic lock than a mechanical 'engineer' to FIX a mechicanl problem....???? This reminds me of the kid who'd start Teslas up, operate windows, etc.....the easy way to get rid of the idiotic TPMS saying tires LOW ( by 1 psi...) BTW don't go looking for a trunk lock anymore ! Most are 'electronic'....great fun when the fuse powering it blows, about 10 minutes before the flat tire needs to be changed, side of a highway, sleet storm...... yup...modern 'tech' sure is 'fun' !!

Dang Coke that was a long video. Then I was attracted to the one where the Vietnam chopper pilots told "this ain't no chit" stories.

re:
I just do not understand WHY anybody would feel that inserting a key in the ignition switch was so much work DJ it's NOT about 'work' it's about the 'bottom line'. For every manuacturer of every product, ultimately ,it's ALWAYS about the 'bottom line', how to make more profit. Keyless entry is a good example. Old skool real door key system requires a LOT of parts ! 2 brass keys, pins, wafers, castings, springs, levers, rivets, screws, rods, clips, etc. While some of the stuff is common to all cars, 'details' like 2kets HAVE to match the THREE locks is kinda important. More parts = more inventory + more assembly = more time = more money New 'keyless' system is a 'module', 2 wires, and some extra code in the 'computer'. The module is the SAME for every car..one size fits all...say 2 clips to secure, less parts = higher profit. Adding code in the computer is a cheap, do once operation, again higher profit. While the 'module' is high tech, given the qty they make, they MIGHT cost 5-10 cents each, been doing R&D 'proof of concept' electronics of 5 decades, so I knowwhat's inside the box and the costs. Keyless systems weigh less and every ounce of every pound shaved off the car's weight makes more MPG, making the EPA, CA and JQPublic happy. marketing LOVES a new high tecky tech 'feature'. The spin doctors make you believe it's the best thing since round wheels were invented so you HAVE to buy it ! Ka-ching....more coins for them ! When it fails, the $$$ electronic diagnosis says 'module needs to be replaced', HUGE profit in that repair !! more coins for them..... Jay

Nearly every Auto, light truck even Heavy trucks and Heavy equipment are now CAN-BUS or Similar ECM controlled systems. They use overlay digital signals to access 'Modules' to turn on lights, radios, operate the transmission HVAC and engine all on ultralight circuitry, a pushbutton to signal a Module to start the car was all that was needed. A Key Switch was "TOO Archaic" and Too Simple for the Enganears to register as TOO EASILY OVER RIDDEN.

Seems the key fob for my Jeep also has a key within it so you can unlock the door with that key IF fob doesn't work - what you do after that i have no idea as you can't start it without the fob .

I have a hidden switch for the fuel injection. It won't even sputter with it off. And if that's not old school enough I also use a truck club on the steering wheel.

Coke, that key also lets you lock and unlock the doors from the outside with the motor running. Toyota Keeps the dogs cool while you are in cracker barrel.
