A buddy of mine didnt know I was into Allis's....well the other night he says "hey I know where there is one".....calls a guy up he knows and says its a D14 NF Gasser....I said nice...I wanna check it out. Sunday afternoon after Church I head on up and check it out....I knew the guy that has it...he's a raging drunk....mid afternoon he was blazed....well anyways I got up there to the farm before him and started digging around the machine....couldnt find a serial #, but it was a D14 or D15...4cyl gas, nf, no fenders, right rear rim literally rotted OFF the tractor....the spinout was split and falling away....had salvagable 14.9-26 Amstrong Hi Power Lugs on the back, F&H rear weights, decent tires on front....tins are pretty straight, side plates missing under the tank, snap coupler drawbar and the upper snap coupler parts are actually on it...well I start digging around the tractor closer and check the oil....4 inches of water, and 4 inches of oil on the stick....no biggy...I've fixed worse. He gets there and says it runs great blah blah blah wants 500.00 for it....I said I wanna see if its locked up....well stuck jumpers on it...I didnt wanna see it start(no way it would have) but just turn enough to see its free and it was....turned maybe a 1/4 turn and pushed water out of the bad exhaust manifold gaskets.....I threw him an offer of 300 bucks....needs a ton of work, engine is probably toast....he says I'll get it to run right now(remember he was drunk as I said before)....I said I'll hold my offer at 300 if you dont break anything else....he didnt understand how valves bend when you hydraulic an engine.....this poor D is gonna sit there probably....maybe I'll scratch the cash to buy it but its a real chance with all that water in it, needs a rim, fenders, battery, grille, headlights, etc....what do you guys think?

Sounds like you disliked the guy more than you liked the tractor.

If you have given this tractor this much thought already you will probably end up buying it.  Might not be the kind of guy you want to have any dealings with, but I don't know him so I could be way off.  I would not want to buy anything from him until he was in his right mind so he does not latter claim you scammed him or something.  I thought you were selling your tractors and buying a house?

Congrats! Sounds like you may end up with the house and get to keep your tractors.  Good luck on both.

Find out what he drinks, take him a case or bottle plus $300 and you may be able to deal.

I'd be inclined to take cold hard cash with me, and show it to him. I've bitten a few times when the offer was lower than I really wanted, but the power of green cash, right here, right now, getting it sold, drew my attention.

I'd also strongly suggest you get a written receipt from him, in his own handwriting, with the serial number on it before I made a deal.

I also think, that upping your offer to $350 +/-, might get you closer to making the deal.
