About 40 years ago, I mounted an old washing machine motor to Dad's JD#1A corn sheller. He used it to hull black walnuts.
I got help to haul it out of the old barn so I could put it back to use. When I get done shelling about 10 bushel of corn that sat in this wagon of 3 years, I may run some walnuts thru it.[TUBE]TF9VoCph1n0[/TUBE] |

I need a belt for the chaff fan, maybe an old singer sewing machine could donate the material for one.
Some day, I may even route the chord away from the flywheel and put a switch on it. |

They still carry those little round leather belts for sewing machines, and you can adjust the length if you need.

Charlie, how is the pulley mounted on the inside of the big wheel on the sheller. Or is it a factory deal.

I am still confident of this;

The cobs went on a big ash stump and got burned. If I had a couple hundred bushel to shell, I might have enough to burn the stump down half way.
Dave, I'll have to look, but I think there is a flat belt pulley on the inside of the flywheel. If the belt is tight enough to get it rolling, it works just fine. I googled a new leather belt, and a replacement for the John Deere lists for 12-25 $ You can buy the same belting in a 72 inch length for a sewing machine for $2 to $6 and cut it to length. I got about 4 bushel dumped in the basement yesterday, filled the stove up last night and the fire was out this morning when I woke up. First snow, and coldest it''s been since last spring, and my feed auger isn't feeding. Now I have to vacuum out the hopper and check for a jam, then probably open the back of the stove up to see if the set screw on the motor shaft came loose. |
