I found this interesting. We had an old Fordson Major Diesel in the shop. It has a Simms inline 4 cyl fuel pump. We removed the pump. It is driven off a slotted drive in the front like the old Buda AC engine with exposed drive and has one shut off cable attached. NO LINKAGE FOR RPM TO GOV. There are 2 lines from the intake manifold, pre carb like butterfly valve in the intake and post butterfly valve port and line. They go to the front of the pump. Low and high idle are set via carb butterfly valve in the intake that is connected to the throttle lever. I am sure some of you old hands have seen this, but it is new to me.. Harry Ford's Son must have had a better idea, he thought. Still a little perplexed on the operation. Any other diesels use this system ?
