Yeah, but each row is only planting 6 acres per year! |

With only 72 acres, I would go with 4-row 38”.
Get a 2 row pull-type sheller, or combine. Get a cultivator, a handful of gravity boxes, your good to go. |

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Since he already owns a combine free and clear, why the heck would he do that? |

I'm curious why you would recommend 38" rows, even for a picker? 30" rows has been the norm for close to 50 years.

Partly personal preference, also with all the free time can be devoted to cultivating, as many times as needed, thus reducing the reliance on herbicides. Since in this scenario time is in abundance. |

Hey Shameless what's driving those corn prices out there in Nebraska? Here in Southern Wisconsin local elevator prices are $4.40 to 4,50. My neighbor and I plant about 80 acres of corn and beans each year with a 12 row planter, He used to farm about 300 acres but rented out most of his land, but the renter gave him more rent if he didn't rent the low field, that floods and 6 smaller fields with steep hillsides so he rotates them between hay and no-till row crops. He has a Kinze front fold with precision corn meters and Kinze bean meters. A very simple planter that works for us even doing no-till and we pull it with an older 120 hp tractor. Don't need all the fancy hydraulics and electronics just the planter monitor.
