Hey guys :-) Welp, Yesterday after school, I packed my bags and my dad drove me to Delaware, OH and then My mom and I stopped by Rich's farm (R Aikin) and looked at some tractors and I got the manifold and gas tank my B needs at long last :-) And then this morning, i got up early and got to work. The mower of awesomeness And the kubota fired right up after sitting for five long months...
So today, i took the head off it and found the cylender filled with strange white powder... So i dumped it out, and got a hammer and a block of wood and busted the engine loose... It wasnt very rusty... And now it turns over nice and smooth Then, just before lunch, My friend phil showed up and delivered my new beater truck... This one is gonna need some work... She has a great running 4.3 and a 5 speed tranny... With 4x4... So theres alot of potential here... I allready have everything i need to make a new wood bed for it, and then all i have to do is fix the front... The guys sister T-Boned a santa fe that ran a stop sign at about 65 miles an hour... Haha... So... Its not very buffable... Dont worry, no one got hurt. Anyway, i need to find someone with a cheap core support and fenders, front clip and hood... Im looking around... I probabally cant do anything for a while tho... We had it running today... We only ran if for about 30 seconds because of the whole no water thing.. but she sounded great :-) My only question tonight is, How do i fix this mag?? Its just the same briggs unit thats on alot of their one cylender engines... Mines just not working... I tried cleaning it up and drying it out (its not the one in the picture, but an identical one) and i just cant get any spark out of it... Any ideas??? Thanks guys... And wish me luck getting that B going tomorrow :-) |

Lanse, I wished I had your energy!!! On the mag, is the flywheel clean? I found that if you wire brush any rust off the flywheel it gives a better spark. Good luck with the B!

Welcom back Lanse. That magneto you have there is a Magnatron (pointless) type. The terminal on it is for a kill wire only. When you put it on, the side with the plug wire goes up, kill terminal down. When you by new ones from B&S, they give you a tag to put between them and the flywheel to gap them. About .020 is what they take. If it doesn't work with no kill wire on the terminal, toss it. No fix possible. If memory serve me correctly, the Briggs # is 393811. |
