I like Farmall's and IH's. If new Kubota, Mahindra, or New Holland. Green is too expensive for what it is! I bought the Allis Chalmers because it was cheap HP (at least in the deep south). They are just not popular down here and no parts service. I order all AC parts mail order. I can get parts for the others listed above from several dealers locally.

Deere, based on the exceptionalism of the local JD dealer's service. However, I've concluded that Kubota M series is perhaps the superior engineered machine and they would work well in our small farming environment..300 acres of grassland farming.

I just traded my john deere 950 for a ford 4000, and I like it. So I would be going with ford all the way if I was to sale all of my AC.

Longmeadow Farm,
Is K.C.Canary still in business or does it go by a different name now. I assume that is the JD dealer you are referring to correct?I was born and raised up near Fonda, actually on the Montgomery/Schoharie county line(Sharon Springs address). We did business with K.C Canary when we farmed and yes they had wonderful service.
Now, to answer the question, OLIVER. We had 2 770s and a 1750 alongside the ACs and they complimented each other nicely I thought. Funny to me how all are under AGCO now because I always thought that putting the 1750 rear/trans with its 18/6 speeds behind an AC engine like in our 190XT would be a darn near bulletproof setup. Also,as far back as I can remember and even now,Dad's pet name for his 190XT has always been "The CAT" because she is so mean, heavy and darn near unstoppable.

Yes LionelinKY, KC Canary is the dealer I'm referring to, but doing business as Hudson River Tractor with five store locations. KC Canary bought out a number of smaller dealers in the Albany area and open a dealership in Goshen down near Westerchester County/NYC area, and renamed the business. They are as good as they ever were and in some respects better.  I switched to Deere a number of years ago when local AC repair became a problem. The local AGCO dealer is just this side of useless.

A good fuel efficient brand supported by a good local dealership.
John Deere, Cat, CaseIH, & New Holland are still in business in the U.S.A.

Longmeadow Farm,
OK, now what local AGCO dealer you referring to? The only one I know of is Sharon Springs Garage. They definitely fit your description in my opinion. I've tried to get parts for some of Dad's old ACs when I visit on more than occasion and left empty handed. I have also had them order parts if they could get it in while I still there and wound up with the wrong thing. I have come to the realization that when I get serious about restoring the old girls I'll be doing alot of the work myself with parts from mail order through other vendors.

Well Josh, I would have to say Oliver, MM, Farmall. Brand new I'd go John Deere, But I would have to have 1 of everything AC ever built before I would consider any other.

Hate to consider it but the only close dealers are New Holland and Deere with Deere being the closest.  ToBeMo's dealership is NH and does have a excellent service department so may end up there first!!

Too bad most of the machines out there now are foreign made and just named for US makes.

Lionelin KY
Have had the same experiences, may times. They have owed me a part under warranty for over a year.  I have some of my heavier AC mechanical work performed by my JD dealer who uses Mabie Bros. Inc (east of Syracuse) for parts...tell you anything??? I also have begun using "retired" AC mechanics for expert guidance and some repair.  I think the biggest insult/abuse of all was being charged 4300 bucks for repairs that were unnecessary..a few years back. You may logically ask, why not get rid of your ACs and switch?.. as they must now be getting old.  I wouldn't part with my 175 loader/chore tractor, that still works most days of the year. My 6080 assists with the tillage work and is pressed into service during the haying/chopping season as necessary. I have owned other ACs over the years but they are gone now. I have been well served by the JD brand/service, but have reserved a special place in my heart for Allis Chalmers... maybe it's something from my youth.

Longmeadow Farm,
Oh, you don't have to explain it to me. Dad sold the farm 20 years ago but kept 10 AC tractors(all of them) at the time. Since then, he has sold off 5. Two more are currently for sale but the last 3 I hope are never sold as long as I'm alive. The WD,WD45, and 190XT were all bought by my grandfather. They are Dad's to do with as he pleases now, however, I have made it clearly known that I want them even if I have to get them shipped to KY from NY. My siblings all think I'm as nuts as Dad and sometimes I think even he agrees. They are indeed like old reliable friends.

I don't make a living with my tractors. My 3930 Ford w/FEL does all the  work around my place . Its simple ,cheap on fuel and easy to get on and off for an old man .
But  I love having my  little B around.

curretly looking at 4x4 AC/oliver/white/belarus/ih/versitile/steiger. owned jd for 30 sum years, both tractors and combines....won't make that mistake again! the jd equipment was in someones shop every year for something....none of my AC's have been in any shop for over 20 years! a mechanic friend of mine says the belarus tractors never have to be plugged in to start in the winter, i guess that's why i see alot of them parked way out in the fields hooked to something when it's cold out! there are plenty of older/good tractors out there to get my stuff done...in my lifetime! i put the extra money in my pocket or on interest, that i save from buying new! and as most of you know....a diesel engine does not require a computer to make it run! the farm equipment companies have done this so self employed mechanics won't be able to take money away from dealers and manufacturers!

I noticed that the CIH tractors are now putting Farmall on them. Saw some compact models that had A emblems on them at a dealer yesterday. Ugly as heck IMHO, but that's all it is.

If I had to go to an older unit, it would be a mid-sized Ford, say a 3910. Had good luck with those, and parts still available.

If I went new, it would be JD green. Sorry to say that, but I have been by several dealers in the past few weeks looking for a sub-compact for grass mowing/light chore tractor. Only had one Kubota/ New Holland dealer around here even bother to come out of the office to ask if he could help, even though I had wandered around the lot for several minutes, and I know they saw my truck come in the parking lot(it's huge and very hard to miss). The JD dealer was out there before I got both feet on the ground, and walked me around to see everything they had on the lot. He explained everything, and was very knowledgeable about each model and the pros and cons for my application. Didn't get that with any other brands, except the one Kubota/NH dealer, who was very helpful. Dealer support goes a long way for me with a new unit.

Still hoping I can buy that 5020 down the road, but I think he's decided to keep it for awhile. Oh well, it's got a good home.
I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!
