Has anyone tried to reseal an I600 backhoe swing motor? I have one that is leaking out the top and was thinking would be a good winter project to tackle. Any information would be appreciated.

No info except that it is a Cessna and was also used on Massey backhoes. Haven't had an I60 for almost 40 years

I put a kit into mine on the AC 650 hore I have - works great EXCEPT that top seal weeps oil . Was real careful putting it together , it leaked some from bottom before i repaired it , stopped that leak and now top weeps . I had a chip out of the rotary piston I had to weld and machine down to get a good internal seal as before hoe would drift easily in direction of swing , got that solved but that top leak - another day project . Yes Massy used same Cessna unit on their hoes and you can find those parts easier although the AC parts might be at Minnpar

It's been 30 years since I had to address that top seal when I had the I600. I seem to remember the seal wanting to lift slightly and then weep. We made a steel ring to hold the seal down, a few spot welds held the ring in place.

We work on hyd pumps and motors all the time where I work. The reason an older pump or motor is so hard to keep from leaking is that everything in most of them runs metal to metal. When they are built they have just enough clearance to let enough oil between the parts for lubrication. Over the years of use the clearances keep getting wider and wider and this lets too much oil get past and it puts too much pressure on the seal. I tell customers if you put a new seal kit in one time and it still leaks it is more than likely worn out.JP

that top seal is like a inverted V ring seal that is in a recess in the top casting , the top shaft of the rotary piston has little relief on end to slide through seal . Wear could be part of the problem -

Did you have any luck with this? I have an HD4 with the Industrial 600 backhoe attachment on it, and my rotary swing cylinder recently developed a pretty bad leak.

I do not use mine that much, but the seals that I got was able to seal it back up.

 Here's a picture of my unit... Would I be able to just pop the top off to access the seal? Or should the whole thing be removed from the machine and moved to a bench to work on it?

You can just remove the top sectionn and get to seal , when replacing the unit it's important to be sure seal is not cut or deformed when installing

It's been a few years. It was one of the vendors on this site. I think it was something like Illiparts??? I did some web searching, not sure if they are still in business or not. They was very helpful in getting what I needed.

I managed to find all the exact, correct parts from Agco! I was only able to figure them out when I found reference to the fact that this model of Cessna swing motor was also used on a Massey Ferguson backhoe, so when you're looking at the Agco parts books you have to look at the right MF model (Massey Ferguson 54A Backhoe). Anyway, the parts are there, but they aren't cheap. I was only replacing the top seal (not the bottom) so I only needed 3 parts (I'm in Canada, so prices are in Canuck bucks): Part# 70924143
(o-ring): $4 CAD
Part# 1097135M1 (Seal): $190 CAD
Part# 1031686M1 (Backup washer): $150 CAD
So for the 3 parts I was in for $344 CAD... with shipping it came to around $365.
I've successfully replaced the seal and with a quick test it seems the leak is gone... but I won't know for sure until I do some more heavy digging with it and put the seal under load while the oil is hot.
