We celebrated 100 years of the round bale this year. Gary Agrimson made a version of the baler described in Ummo Luebben's patent from 1910, and Eric Luebben was there to give a bit of history of his family and the development of the idea. We had the earliest known to still exist Luebben baler on display from 1933, and a functional Luebben baler from 1937 that we made a bale with for the crowd to see.
We started the seminar with Eric Luebben and the baler built from the patent. Then it was on to the original Luebben balers. Then Gilbert Vust took over the discussion when we got to the time when Allis Chalmers bought the rights to make the Roto-Baler. Edited by TomMN - 27 Jul 2010 at 7:16pm |

After we went through history to modern large round and large square
balers which were also on display, we went with the running 1937 Luebben
baler and made a bale with quite a crowd.
There were also Roto-Balers to be seen in the field. |

In the last pic of the 1937 Luebben I am at the back of the baler leaning down talking to my 10 year old son.

In your third picture you got a two tone B in the background. It looked pretty good that way. It is always fun to see a roto baler in action. A great time.

Hauled in many a ton of those little round bales with my uncle when I was a kid.
His baler is still in the barn where he parked it 30 years or so ago. Still has twine in the bin. |

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for much of anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
