Exactly how would a person check to see if a tractor he might want to buy jumps out of gear or not? I'm not being a wise guy... I'd really like to know the best way.
I guess you could put a load of silage behind it and go down a hill, but is there a better, maybe easier way?

Drive down hill at full throttle, then back the throttle all the way off without using any brake. My Wd45 popped out of 3rd the first time I cracked it open without any load behind it. Unfortunately it was on the way out of the former owners drive, after he had the check in hand.

Be sure to check for good breaks BEFORE attempting these tests though...

Try letting off the gas going up a hill and also do it going down a hill.
If it is really bad it will also jump out on flat ground sometimes under power and sometime when you back off power.

Don't need any speed. On my D14 just put it in third and drive it, if it goes without a load, coasts, it will just fall out of gear. Don't really pop, just doesn't stay in gear. Don't use third any, so it's no big deal to me.
