Hey guys,

Newbie here. I have a good running Allis WD that came with a 3 bottom snap coupler plow when i bought it a while back. I am a little puzzled as to what it is i am missing on the setup. This is the setup i have where the drawbar attaches to the tractor. Note the pin from side to side.

Now here is the end on the plow

I know this sounds stupid, but what am i missing? It's almost like that ring on the plow should be flipped 90 degrees, or that pin that is on the tractor should be going up and down instead of side to side? What gives? Thanks in advance for helping me out.

Hot rod, you have a WD which never had a Snap Couple system until dealer installed parts came out with the 45. The plow is Snap Couple and would have pins for the lift latches. The pin hitch plow you need would have forgings that slide over the lift arms and get bolted to the lift arms.

Are there different hole sizes in the plow end for the CA and WD, or should the CA use a bushing??

Here is a pin hitch plow. The lift links look like the ones on my CA's plow. I dont know if they would be right for the WD.

I don't think my CA plow has a bushing??  I do believe the lift links for the CA are different than what the WD had.

Hot rod, Just so that you know if you convert to the snap coupler bell on your tractor to make sure that you get the latches for on the lift arms to go with it. The reason is that if you somehow permanatly attach the arms with a snap coupler hitch it can create a very risky situation if the hook in the bell comes unhooked from the loop on the plow. If you change over make sure it is all or nothing. I don't want to scare you, just make you aware

I got a wd once that didn't have the coupler bell on it so I had to put one on it. It wasn't very hard but if you don't have it right it won't work.
wd with a freeman model 90 trip loader, wd45, 38 unstylled wc, b 10 garden tractor and 2-14 ac trip plow. grandpa has a 56 wd45. wd. allis chalmers snap coupler blade and 3 bottom snap coupler plow

That snap coupler end just unbolts from the plow and a pin hitch end bolts on with the same two bolts. I convet the plow when I move it from the WD to a WD45. My plow has both ends so it easy to do.

Dave, That's fine if you have proper working lift latches. If the plow has the forged connectors that bolt on the lift arms, you are asking for real trouble. The plow can come out of the bell and flip up pinning you against the steering wheel.

I have lift latched for both tractors. They are not installed unless I put the plow on. The plow is the only thing I use that connects to the lift arms. So once A year I slide them on for a day then put back in the shed when I'm done.

I had a plow do that once.  It ain't much fun.  Had a scar on my left arm for years from the plow.  Could have just as easy split my head open.  I'm pretty careful about the working condition of the snap coupler now.

Yrs ago I was told just what you pictured as being the death of the snap coupler. It killed people. Sure glad they offered the pin hitch.

Well after the SC system came out, they didn't offer the pin hitch. I doubt this condition had much to do with the downfall of the SC. This wouldn't happen if you had the plow connected to the lift arms with the spring loaded latches, unless they were rusted solid. It would also not happen if the hook, spring and release chain were all in good order and adjusted properly. This tractor has a SC bell and the lift arms are bolted to the lift links on the plow.
If your SC hook doesn't seem to want to unhook when you pull the lever, DO NOT tighten the chain so it will work better.

There's nothing unsafe about the snap-coupler system.  The problem tends to be when the release chain is shortened.  What happens is when the implement is in the ground, it will pull the hitching point or snap-coupler bell towards the rear of the tractor which in turn, tightens up the release chain.  If the release chain is too short, it will act just as if you are trying to unhook the implement.  The hook will pivot down and release the snap-coupler eye as if trying to unhitch.  The key thing is too have the chain just long enough to unhitch the implement.

Thanks & God Bless

Dennis
