HF or Porter Cable,,,?

 About 2 months ago we had A "SEVERE" storm go thru with golf ball sized hail that done a lot of damage to all the trees especially my big Pecan tree in front. The quality of the nuts had been steadily going smaller and smaller til last year I talked with the County Extension Agent and he suggested some special fertilizer and water more frequently. I made a hole punch to drive into the ground out to the drip line, fertilized it all really good and watered the heck once a week,,,them nuts were Now extra big and full and,,,,and,,,I fount over half of them on the ground after the friggin storm!!!! The shingles took a big hit and fortunately the insurance did not quibble as they replaced the roof 5 years ago also,,,! The adjuster did not even come out as they have a "NEW" software program where "I" use my IPhone and with the camera I started at one corner take a pic, go to middle of that wall, take another then next corner and go all the way around the house,,,FROM the ground!! Never had to get on roof. Emailed them the pics and somehow they used some super secret satellite to develop a 3d pics of the whole house from every angle possible and sent them back to me,,,,,,just goes to show how "BIG BROTHER" can look in on you whenever they want to,,,,?
 Back to my story,, A couple of Contractor friends are gonna do the shingling and I want to buy a Roofing Nail Gun to help the job go better. (I'm gonna drive the D14 to get shingles up on roof)  Harbor Freight has a good looking Chicago Pneumatic  gun for $173 and Home Depot has a Porter Cable for same price.  All the specs on both guns are the same. I'm tempted to go with the Porter Cable for the name ALTHO, I have never had any issues with the HF tools I have bought and they both have an extended 2 year warranty available for $25.

	Joe I’m an old fan of Portercable tools. That said, the new ones are all foreign made just like my China made Senco. I’d go with the one you think would be easiest to return should you have a problem.

	flip of the coin.. hmmm.....which store is closer to get a replacement ?? whichever you buy, be sure to ADD OIL to the gun !!!! oh heck why bother, it's all on the insurance bill anyway, right ?? actually I'd buy two, keep one as a 'just in case,in box' spare, when job is done, return it for refund. 	I have two PC Guns, a 16p framer and a Roofer, like Both!! But mine are older air compressor supported not CO2 cartridge guns.

	For the same price I would get the PC. Jaymiller has a good idea: buy one as a spare and return it it not needed.

	Do yourself a favor and get a Bostich gun from Menards for a few $$ more !! Porter Cable "ANYTHING" sucks IMO

	If they are same price get the presumably better of the two. I have some Porter Cable tools and haven't had any problems with them.

	Since they are both the same tool with a different coat on them, I would get the closer of the two. After the roof is done, take the gun back and get a refund. You can buy a new one later if the need arises. Just tell them it quit working or something like that. I always use the same reason; "wrong size"!!!

	i've had porter cable tools (electric) and have had good luck with them. my shear is about 20 years old and still works as it should. i did buy a HF air powered finish nailer foe doing the plank siding in my cook shack. it works great, i do put a drop of oil in the air inlet on each reload of nails. don't your contractor friends have tools?

	oh....and don't get the staple gun, get the one that shoots roofing nails.

	Joe, i know a very knowledgeable person here who says that the government can look through your house's roof with those sophisticated satellites and see what you are doing inside. Last i heard he was an overseer for 69 walmart stores.

	Might be easier to get parts for the PC down the road but don't know as I have the Bostich nailer that's almost 28 years old and never needed anything but a little oil and more nails.

	I have a few Porter Cable finish guns if anyone wants them. Parts are very expensive to repair them as is parts for the new Chinese Senco. I have a Dewalt coil siding nailer that has a lot of miles on it.

	I Bought the Porter Cable,,!! They both had 3 year Mfgrs warranty but the coin toss done it,,,, You know,,it amazing what your brain can do for you,,,as soon as I got home and walked into gaRAGE,,I got to thinking,,,,I do believe I have not ONE but TWO of these friggin guns that I bought bout 6-7 years ago,,! One was Brand New In Box and the other was just slightly used! Ain't sayin where or who I got em from,,,but come to find out the neighbor that told me he would help me shingle the whole house for a couple of songs,,he did NOT like to use the nail guns altho the used gun worked many wonderfuls. He had him a small hatchet that he liked cause it had a notch and a "pin" that told him where to line up the shingles,,,,PLUS,,,he was workin by the hour,,,?? I used both of the guns alternating from one ta other and never had a problem. I would oil em every day, then wrapped em up good and put em up and Forgot em!!!! Anyways the three dudes that gonna do the roof this time all like the nail guns, so There!! I'll have to operate the D14 to lift the new shingles up on roof. I took that big ole back hoe off to give me more manuevering room in back yard,,,,,looks Nakid without it on,,,,,

	Id consider saving my money as insurance is paying workers to do the roof and they may not let you on their ladders or on "their" work area due to insurance, your help would possibly be more appreciated on the ground for ground support, clean up after tear off, etc.

	I had my house and 2 out buildings roofs replaced late spring. Did it about 20 years ago myself on the 3. Took me forever. Just a standard 3 tab. Upgraded this time to an impact resistant shingle. Had 8 younger guys here at 630am and got all the old ripped off and new on and all the debris cleaned up by 8pm. Replaced a bunch of sheathing too. Found 6 stray nails and that's all. I was impressed at the work ethic and organization these young guys had. Don't see that often anymore.
