That's got a hard azz back breaking job to do,,,,, and finds a way to "Get Er Done",,,,, Two or three months ago, I happened onto a Ramsey 3000# winch at the local friendly County Transfer Station,,,,(they don't call it "The City Dump" no more) Anyway,,it looked pretty complete so I trew it on the trailer and come on home. Soons I had a chance I piddled with it some and found that the forward "solenoid" was not working,, so I tried shorting across that terminals and DANG if it didn't start moving,,,!! I took off all the copper strips they used for jumpers and sanded the contact areas til shiny and the SOB worked like a new machine forward AND Reverse,,!! I put it up on a shelf thinking I would find a job for it for sure,,,,,,,,Ya'll know ole Joe's bout 7/8 Thrifty and 1/8 cheep,,,,, Anyway,,when we started the re-shingling job on the house,,the first time I had to go dump a trailer load of shingles,,,,It took me dang near two friggin hours to rack all them friggin shingles out the trailer,,,,!! So, I mounted that cute little Ramsey winch on the back of the Pick up bed trailer, welded up a 1/4" cable "PULL" chingas that would just fit inside the inner fenderwells and THEN the three dudes workin on the shingles all wanted to go with me to see how this corntraption worked,,,, Guys,,,we had us a good sized CROWD all hemmin and hawin and wantin to take some pics,,,,I hit the switch (Thanks Steve (I think) for the link to Surplus Center and that thing worked pretty as you can please and flat unloaded the whole friggin trailer full of shingles out on the ground before Quick Could Get Ready,,,,,,!!! Took longer to sweep out the trailer,,,,, Well,,we made 6 trips to the dump and I knew I was gonna revise the winch location and move it to the front of trailer and make it a permanent installation as Then The boys won't run and hide when I mention that the "Trash" in trailer needs dumped,,,,,The winch would get all the trash dumped ON IT while in the back location and it being in front ,,it don't ever SEE any of the trash,,, See what ya'll think,,,,chit I might want to patent the idea,,,,,

Back many years ago, a friend showed me a neat trick that is even thriftier. If you are loading bulk materials for a trip to the dump, use a tarp that is 2x as long as the bed of the vehicle, in question. put tarp in bed, with the excess tarp, in front of the bed. load what you can pull out, maybe 200-400#. loop the tarp excess over the material. repeat with another tarp, and layer, etc, etc, rill you run out of tarps and material, or reach the height of material that is safe. Get to the dump, pull off the top layer, and work your way to the bottom. load comes off faster than you can fold the tarps...

Kind of works on the same principle the old false front wagons did, before self-unloading forage boxes came along.

WF, that was exactly what I was thinking too... 'cept you had a pipe in the back that the two cables wrapped around and had a unloading jack that was put in the end to winch it out. Sure didn't take much power to winch them loads out... just had to have enough power on the blower to keep up as you raked the silage down into the feeder table. Oh yea, that winch was a heavy sucker to get hoisted up and on the pipe for a 10 year old kid... and to pull the false front back into position for the next load. ... an don't forget to latch the back door either, cuzz you didn't want the silage spilling out. Ye done good there DJ.

Well,,Thank ya'll for lettin me toot my horn,,,, Yeah, JC, I finished up the modifications and moved the winch to the front of trailer and run that cable under the trailer to a snatch block on rear bumper,,, then cable just lays on top of bed tied to the Pulling drag. I also added some angle iron pieces welded to bed to guide that drag as it tried to climb over the fenderwells a time or two. It now just works slicker than owl chit..... Next project is to assemble the engine on the Fergie and then throw an Earl Schieb Special on it as I been gettin a strong urge to get back on that 55 in the garage. I got this fellar thats been hounding me for the longest to sell him that Brute 406 thats in it and I'm just about decided I'ma gonna do it cause gasoline ain't ever gonna get any cheaper and that SOB gets bout,,,,UMmmmm,,,one gallon per mile,,,,?? CHIT,,,I'd have to take out a loan on the property for fuel as I did promise ole Thad he gots first dibs on some tire screeching when I get up that a way,,,but I'm thinking a better candidate for Cruising is another 400 SBC I've had waiting for a place to find a home,,,,If I hurry,,,I think I can make it and we can both surprise ole Shameless while he's cookin up a storm,,,,,

I’ve have one of those for years. Absolutely love it. Only time I had trouble was when they dumped over 3000 pounds of gravel on it. Had to shovel some off first.
