I can use some help. I am trying to take a WD wide front from one tractor to put it on another and I am not sure what all is involved. I have removed the 8 bolts on the sides but where do I disconnect the steering column? Thanks

Drive the pin out of the steering knuckle behind the frame rail on the right side of the tractor.

Is that a tapered pin? It almost looks like it is peened over on both sides. It looks to be a 3/8 diameter pin or so. I can grind one side off if I need to. Thanks |

I got the stearing knuckle off. Is that all I have to do? Do I need to loosten any other bolts on the rail? It doesn't seem to be moving any. I assume it has to slide out the front. I appreciate any help. I just don't want to disassemble any more than I have to .
Thanks, Mike

I have removed a couple front ends. Yes need to loosen the other bolts in the frame rail moving towards the back end. If you don't do that and take pry bar and split the rail open it up you'll never get the steering box to just slide out.

You need to remove the front mount support for the engine. Loosen the bolts for the left frame rail; if you loosen the right frame rail you will lose your hydraulic fluid at the belt pulley drive seal. Take note that the front engine support uses tapered washers on the inner side of the frame rail legs. The front engine support also uses a shim/s between the engine and the support; the shim thickness is supposed to be the clearance plus .010".

If there are bolts into the bottom of the radiator as on a WC, remove at least one of these as well.

DG has good advice on this project, I found out the hard way about the belt pulley seal some years ago and will remember that for my lifetime.
