The natural tendency of the pump is to want to deliver oil. If the Traction Booster linkage is disconnected/broken, I believe the pump will continue to lift. If you don't find anything there. disconnect the vertical rod that goes up to the control lever. When you push it down, you should be feeling resistance from the internal spring. If no serious resistance, I'd say there is linkage broken inside the rear section of the pump. You could also try and screw fully inward screw "D" , which is located on the front middle section of the pump directly under the Traction Booster line to the gauge. Try it screwed clear in and then back it clear out and see if anything changes.

Hey Doc I have been working on old A-Cs for almost 50 years but the wd series hyd pumps have always been a mystery to me ! What I did is turn screw D in and the plow dropped but after that I went plowing again but I screwed the screw D out again but the pump sounds like it wants to keep pumping I think the unloading valve gets stuck any more advice would be great !

Check the TBoost linkage ( to be there and hooked up) and then for spring resistance in the long vertical rod when pushed down.

Mine did that once hooked to a disk. I couldn't get it to release the pressers at all. I finally managed to get the coupler off which relieved a little pressure and it was fine after that. Maybe to can crack a line and try the same??

If they continue to pump for some reason,(linkage, misadjusted, lever all the way up for long time or what ever) they get hot and lock spool valves in side. Avoid running with lever all the way up for a long time. MACK

I've wondered about this before. So when roading a mounted plow, should I switch the pump over to hold position? Seems like a pain. That's when mine locked up though. Had the disk plugged up with wet muck dirt and had the lever up for about 15 minutes while I cleaned it out.

Mack I think you nailed the problem I had drove in total about 20 miles plowing different patches for people but I have to run with the lever all the way up because the plow will creap down and the pump got hot !!I know that even plowing it gets pretty warm with the tracton booster working all the time. As far as creeping down what could be done with that. Thanks!

Engineering is many times a compromise. To get one thing, you might have to give something else up. When the hydraulic pump is set for Traction Booster control, you have this no "hold" position situation. I'm going to assume the Engineers figured the tractors didn't travel very far with the hand lever all the way to the top, so there usually wasn't much of an issue. You can pull the lift/lower lever down a bit to help reduce this heating issue. If I was going very far, I'd simply adjust screw "B" outward so the hold position works and then readjust when I got to the next field to plow. When the D14/17 came out, now there was no issue with the hold position AND the Traction Booster lever was always right where you left set at. Leak down on a WD-45?? If it isn't leaking externally, it's the hold valve itself.

Good idea Doc ! I put on another pump I had yesterday but that one razes up real slow I just got back from work I'm going to make a round and see how it acts. Another thing why would this pump raze slow but it seems to have a hold area by adjusting the lever . and it is set like the other pump.

Lift linkage from lever may need shortened or check ball springs may be broken and stuck under balls. MACK

Hello, I have an allis 190xt. How do I check to see if the position control and the traction boost are working? It looks now after working on it for quite a while that I got all the linkage freed up and moving, but I need to know how to test it.

Well yesterday we had our plowing day it started to rain some my 73 plow done a nice job plowing sod but was still razing slow but it worked making my last round all of a sudden bang oil sprayed out of under the control valve blew the O ring so I left it. So today I went back put in the O ring now the plow razes fast go figure ! pretty happy now ! Like I said that pump has always been a mystery to me on the WD series !

Well I'm glad you got that fixed Paul.....even if it did fix itself.
![]() Didn't make it to the plow day with you, sorry but I was with mdm1 up by wiplowboy picking up parts etc. ![]() Maybe next year, but I will get up by the shop one of these days!! |
