    Posted: 17 Jun 2010 at 10:13pm
I was driving over to pick up my newest buy, a SC carryall, with my WD and all of a sudden it made a couple of loud knocks and died.  I tried to turn it over with the crank, because the starter wouldn't, and it wouldn't budge.  So I pushed it off the road down a bank and as I did I had it in reverse and let the clutch out.  When it turned over a little, backwards, I put it in 4th and let out the clutch and it started.  It ran rough for about a minute or two then died with the same noise again.  Do you think it is the starter or possibly the hydraulic pump?  Thanks for your help!!  Phil

Sounds like some serious engine trouble. I wouldn't try running it again until you get it home and check it out. Trying to run it with broken internal engine parts would cause a major disaster. Did you check the oil condition and level? Sounds like the engine seized up. The engine will break loose temporarily, but trying to run it again will make it worse.

happened while runnings, so i would guess NOT the starter or hydraulics. I also think loose connecting rod.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I would pull the starter just to be 100 percent positive that its not the starter nose cone . I had one that must have not broken completely into when the engine cranked but it did shortly there after.
