I recently purchased an early 190 (not XT). I put fixed the electrical system so it would turnover correctly without shorting out and also worked on the fuel system (it was plugged in the tank). Anyway we then tried to start it and it rolled over fine for a couple of revolutions (10-20 maybe) then it just stopped like it froze up. I could turn it over backwards using the fan for about a 1/4 of a turn, and then tried it again and same thing same spot. Once in a while when I would turn it backwards it would go ahead and turn past the spot and spin for a couple of revolutions then stop again. I pulled the injectors to make sure it wasn't hydrolocked (it wasn't). Now I cannot decide where to go from there. Dropped a valve maybe? Any ideas?
Thanks
Adam

I would pull the starter and see if you can rotate it by hand using a pry bar.Either that or figure a way to get a socket on the front of crank.By all means, until you've determined it's not a major problem in the engine, do not try to pull it. HTH God Bless and good luck.

That could be fun, figuring that out, if its got the big old starter make sure its not getting hot and quiting on you , they do that, theres a hole right under the flywheel to get a big screwdriver\ bar in to turn it by hand , if you feel resistance turning it ; quit; find the problem ; do you step in the clutch ? That may narrow it to the motor and not trans trouble ; pull the valve cover and see if everything is moving or something dissappeared; take your time and narrow it down

BE carefull i had a VAH that seemed to ack the same way the valve stuck and finally bent the push Rod from turning over with the starter.then i replaced the head on the tractor as the seat was bad with another head. this happened a week ago i had the engine rev up on the tractor the valve head broke off this is the damage just ordered a new piston and 4 new exhaust vavles and new intake valve i have little bad luck lately.
i was getting reddy to tear it down to put all new gaskets and seals anyway in the motor just was not wanting to have to alot more work than i needed.be carefull.
