I just built a room in my shop to house our freezers.
It’s insulated and going to have a mouse proof exterior door. I priced 36” steel exterior doors and sticker shock scared me away. I went to a local used store last night and found exactly the door I want with left hand swing and all. They said they would take $30.00 I bought it. This door had something glued to the surface. They used silicon and spread it with a 1/8” notched trowel. I tested a couple spots and it was peeling of very easy. I got it home and hung the door. After I was satisfied with the installation I begun the process of removing the silicon. It doesn’t peel off everywhere as easy as it did in my test spots. Any advice on this? Has it on both sides. Also silicon peelings sure don’t sweep up easily either. Anything soften cured silicon? |

Enamel Reducer. Go to a local body shop, buy what they use.

Brake cleaner softens/destroys most silicone. Get the chorinated version - the less eco friendly the better.

Try some rubbing alcohol, it probably isn't as effective as the harsher chemicals mentioned above but isn't as nasty to work with.
