   I was bushogging with 1960 D-17 NF and went to disengage The PTO when nothing happened.The shifter will slide back and forth but the PTO stays engaged.
   Looked in shop manual and it says tractor has to be split to be fixed.Has anyone had this problem.From drawing in book looks like a roll pin broke or fell out.
Project might have to wait for winter.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated
You only need to know 3 things to be a plumber;Crap rolls down hill,Hot is on the left and Don't bite your fingernails

Drain the oil from the compartment (plug is straight down from the clutch pedal) and remove the cover behind the hand clutch lever to gain access to the PTO shifter. You've got to fish out the broken roll pin pieces so they don't run between any gears. Replace the roll pin with a Gr5 or Gr8 5/16" bolt and locknut using maybe an air ratchet to tighten the bolt. This is a really tight place to work and small hands are a good thing.

Thanks for the info Doc.Then you believe it is possible to fix without splitting.I will drain and check if I can see what came out and if I can find the pieces.

Pat , you will probably have to still punch the some of the roll pin out . Like Doc says small hands work better in that tight hole there and nimble fingers better yet. Make sure you get it all whither its in 1 -2 or 3 peices. He's done it and I have done it too.  I used a shearbolt & nut for the flywheel on a 273 NH baler and did not use an air rachet wrench but it would have been nice.
 Let us know how you make out there, should be pretty much straight forward at doing it.
