I looked at a HD6G HI-LIFT today it hasent been started in 5 or 6 yrs and sitting out-side . thay said m,ake an offer on it. it looked like no water in the oil but oil is over full. most of the 5 or 6 yrs no cover on the stack but the muffler is rusted out i think The water went on through. thay said it was running when parked. i though mabe scrap iron price! i think it is a 1966 model. What do you think? it is worth? THANKS TOM

go for scrap value unless you or they get it running. an hdg should weigh about 18000 pounds if i remember right. around here, unprepared steel brings .10-.12 per pound. you may have some stuck steering clutches once you do get her going. good luck.

value is hard to put on just weight , for if track and rest of underside is worn out it's a goldmine to repair. $2000 or so would seem fair if it turns over
Just sitting a lot of things go to heck , water finds place to rust and things seem to go bad quicker sitting then when things move.

My cousin just got a HD6 and he paid iron price for it. They weight about 10 ton. Since it has been sitting 5-6 years and If it has a Bosch PSB injection pump on it do not try to turn it over until you remove the injection pump. The plunger can stick in these pumps from sitting and when you turn the engine over you can break the plunger off. Once you break the plunger the pump is non repairable. The cousins machine is waiting to get pushed in the shop for this reason. Matt |

If it doesn't turn over it is a paper weight unless you just admire the HD6 like I do. You should open the oil pan plug to check for water. If the fan belts are good you should be able to turn the engine by turning the fan. I like to pre oil an engine that has set for years. The reason is that the oil cooler and the oil filter can drain back to the oil pan even though there is a ckeck valve. I disconect the line to the oil pressure gage and pump oil into the system. The HD6G motor that I am working on has cost me $3000 in parts. It is easier to pay $5000 for a good machine with a good running engine and undercarage. This is do as I say not as I do. I have 3 HD6G's that I play with.

Running with a good undercarriage and not an oil burner $3000.00 to $6000.00, anything else scrap value, mine with the bucket, counter weights and scarificer weighs just over 21000 lbs.
