I have an HD-4 and I'm attempting to identify the correct oils to use in it. The torque converter & shuttle clutch in the operators manual says to use type "A" suffix A transmission oil. What is this in todays oils? Same with the transmission oil. The manual says to use SAE 20-20W
And what is the correct oil for the hydraulic system. Are any of these oils need to be non-foaming oils? My farm stores and local NAPA store can not help me identify the correct oils to use. Any and all help is welcomed. Rodney

Type A is that red automatic transmission fluid, I think it is about 10 weight.  20-20 would probably work but it might be too thick for winter use, it might take a bit of running before you could move the machine.

Type A is Dextron - GM transmission -
20 - 20 I think I would use Universal Tractor Hyd fluid Hi Tran - or other such universal oil
For Hyd use YES a NON FOAMING oil  there 10/30 motor oil or the Universal oil again
final reductions 80/90 gear oil

As the torque converter is involved I would stick to the ATF in clutches and fwd/rev section- a good quality oil as it needs to flow freely in all temps.

Under my lid of the hydraulic tank there is a list of all oils for my h4. TYPE A TRANSMISSION FLUID FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND 30 WEIGHT OIL FOR THE HYDRAULICS. I just had to remove my hydraulic controls to fix some leaks. Went to my local farm and home store and bought 30 weight to fill it up. So far its has been fine. Norm
